Banderz · 04/02/2026 13:35

Our daughter's name is Eloise and we are expecting another child in the summer. We won't find out the gender.

Our final names are

Girl: Matilda, Simone or Esme

Boy: Arlo, Robin or William

Which are the favourites?

I like Matilda, Esme and Robin best.

Melsy88 · 04/02/2026 13:37

Girl: I think Simone goes best with Eloise, but my favourite of the 3 is Matilda.
Boy: I think William goes best with Eloise. I like Arlo and William.

Do you mind them being popular? Esme and Arlo have been pretty popular for a while.

SabbatWheel · 04/02/2026 13:38

Matilda or Arlo

As long as they are not in the UK top 5 or 10 I think it's okay! Eloise is very popular online but only 86 in the UK. Same with Esme, I think it's around the 50 mark. When you have to choose names both you and your partner like, that go with your last name, their siblings names, can work for a multicultural bilingual family and have nice meanings, I can compromise on the popularity side 😄

Esme and Robin

Emelene · 04/02/2026 14:14

I love William. I have one and a little girl with
an El- name. Of your girls, I like Matilda best.

oblong920 · 04/02/2026 14:30

I knew a Robin who hated his name, I love William -Will is a great nn too. I don't like Simone, much prefer Mathilda or Esme.

RudolphRNR · 04/02/2026 14:31

Esme and Robin, both lovely!
Wildcard suggestion - Robyn for a girl.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 04/02/2026 14:32

Matilda and Robin are my favourites from your options and sound good with Eloise (lovely name!)

aintnospringchicken · 04/02/2026 14:32

Simone and Robin

LoudPlumDog · 04/02/2026 14:46

Myswweetchild · 04/02/2026 14:57

Matilda and William (or Robin).

amy480 · 04/02/2026 16:59

All nice names but I think I’d go Esme and William. Only note on Esme is that it sometimes has pronunciation issues - I floated it as a name idea and a few people said ah Es MAY is lovely and I had to say no it’s Es ME!!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 04/02/2026 17:00

Esme and Arlo are overused. I’d do any of the others.

HotdogMacaroniCheese · 04/02/2026 17:30

I only like Arlo.

I would say Matilda, Arlo and Esme are incredibly popular, I work with children.

Esme is 51 in charts, Matilda 31, Arlo 15
Id only be concerned about names in the top 10

Matilda and Arlo have been popular for quite a while, Matilda for at least ten years so they’ll meet a lot of them and probably work with a lot of them. I have a popular 80s name and although there were only two of us in my year, I work with an endless amount of colleagues with my name.

Mumofgirls2017 · 04/02/2026 18:22

Matilda and William

But Esme was originally French and had an acute accent on the last ‘e’. That’s why it is Ez-may.
