What are the current “naughty boy/girl” names?

i know there’s been threads like this done before I read some from 20 years ago when I was a kid myself. Obviously baby naming has changed a lot since then.
Because there will undoubtedly be someone who says this is mean spirited then this is your warning to not bother reading it.

I’m curious to see if my kids names come up because they did on a few of the old threads 😂. Comments from teachers especially welcome

Every Archie I know needs a stern talk!

The one I know best is lovely (not my kid, but everyone knows him because he always talks to everyone and welcomes new kids).

Sebastian and Beatrice

Allysia
Kai
Cole
Mason
Rafferty
Ruby

(my sister is a teacher and she says these are the current problematic names in her area. It seems like the Jayden/Cayden/Braydon thing is phasing out)

Likely (but not at all guaranteed) to be cheeky/naughty:

Lacie
Remi/Remii
Lexi
Nevaeh
Ava

But you never know and I know lovely ones with all these names.

When I worked in a primary school it would have been Ollie, Freddie and Alfie. One of my DS has a name that's come up a few times and he is the least badly behaved kid ever - he's 16, has never had a detention or any negative points at school, on track to get excellent GCSEs and I had an email from his form tutor at the start of term saying what a great kid he is. Possibly he's secretly plotting something epically evil...

Genuinely, parents who were a bit wealthier tended to try to throw their weight around more than those who were working class - at least in the state schools where I worked.

Well, I do hope you were noticing Peregrine DESERVED privileges?

There was a lovely Adam in my class when I was in P1. Met him at a school reunion last year - he's now married to one of my primary pals.

Lucky- I'd love to meet a nice Adam for once haha!

My bully was an Angela. Quite the mean girl then. I hope for her sake she's grown wiser and nicer over the years.

Ditto

Towards the end of my career I still saw the occasional Alexis or Blake, but that was the only Fallon I ever encountered. I've seen a few Crystals in my time.

The most genuinely evil thing that I've ever heard of was the local primary school where a teacher had named her class groups after soap families... One group was called The Dingles.

Oh that’s a bit off. I wouldn’t mind being in the Ewing’s group though 😁

Neveah and Angel - just rebelling against the meaning of their names surely ? :)

Marcipix · 28/01/2026 15:30

Dylan. He is a perishing nuisance.

Crunchymum · 28/01/2026 15:31

So many unique names here that surely people cannot know enough of kids with these names to label them "naughty" ??

Ayden, Jayden, Kayden, Braydon, Hayden
Brody, Jesse, Beau
Roman, Jensen, Mason
Lachlan

I know zero kids with most of these names!!

Edited

Latterly, I saw several Jaydens and Kaydens. The spelling differed a great deal, however. Brody/Brodie wasn't uncommon.

You still see a few Romans and some Lachlans depending on where in Scotland you are.

The obnoxious Archies I know are indeed MC!

Naughtiness is not the preserve of the WC!

Far from it. As a working class scholarship girl, the behaviour and language of some MC and UC kids was an eye opener. And the language was ripe!

Plenty of kids at my boarding school that had parents who grafted to afford the fees and they seemed to be better behaved, maybe they understood the financial sacrifice.

Names the parents can't spell, I once had Shavorn, Chevonne and some other variation of Siobhan I forget in one group I taught, not the top set!

This is so funny.
My DH has a typically 'sensible man' name. The reality varies.

We loved the name Ruth when our DD was born but I said we can't have that as every Ruth I have known has been sweet and sensible, and no child of ours is likely to be hahahahaha

The only Ruth I knew was a great aunt, and there was no way that she was a model of manners and decorum, particularly not by Edwardian standards.

We sometimes had the opposite - 'traditional' names with idiosyncratic pronunciations.

I once had a parent emailing to threaten retribution because a cover teacher had mispronounced his child's name.

changedusernameforthis1 · 28/01/2026 15:57

Two of mine have been mentioned on this list so far. One is almost constantly praised by teachers and "a delight to have" in school reports.
The other is the reason we groan aloud when we see the school calling 😂

hahahahahaha brilliant
I have a colleague who is Ruth and she is very calm and sweet. And I was at uni with another who was always a good student who didn't do anything silly.

Can't guarantee we would be able to hold kiddo to such high standards. As I turns out she is quite well behaved (so far).

Archie! Every Archie I know 🤣🤣
And I would say the are all posh/middle class based on my area

I remember in one of my first teaching jobs in about 1972 there was an Archibald, his mother didn't allow anyone, including the boy, to shorten it to Archie, he hated his name and was a very unhappy 11 year old, He'll be well over 60 now, hopefully he's managed to shorten his name!
