What are the current “naughty boy/girl” names?

i know there’s been threads like this done before I read some from 20 years ago when I was a kid myself. Obviously baby naming has changed a lot since then.
Because there will undoubtedly be someone who says this is mean spirited then this is your warning to not bother reading it.

I’m curious to see if my kids names come up because they did on a few of the old threads 😂. Comments from teachers especially welcome

I don’t really think this is fair! I am the same parent to both of my children but one is noticeably naughtier than the other. I’m always telling her to behave and explaining the consequences of her actions and disciplining her. Her older sister never needed to be told, she just behaved. Kids are individuals - it’s not always parents or environment or anything outside themselves.

That's not an attack on you. You obviously value education.

Those who don't are the parents who refuse to work with the school or who (like an aunt of mine through marriage) would take their daughters out of school for a day just to go shopping.

We used to have some mothers who would organise hair and nail appointments for their daughters during school hours and would back their daughters when they said that they couldn't do work because their nails were too long. (I wish that I were making them up.) A tiny minority, but they definitely exist.

We had one - a solicitor - who threatened to sue the school when she was called in because her child had disrupted a mock by being drunk and disorderly. (Had also threatened to sue the LA when a member of staff stopped this child from continuing an assault on another child.)

The same parent also threatened us for daring to say that her child had plagiarised a piece of coursework. When I pointed out that the essay had clearly been printed from a piece posted on the internet, she switched to claiming that the child didn't think that it was plagiarism because they'd 'copied it by hand'. [They had not copied it by hand.]

Any unique names i.e. utterly ludicrous made-up names for spoilt brats. I could give a few examples but as they are one of a kind nonsense it would be fairly outing as to where I am.

I've never come across one. I think that the most 'old-fashioned' name that we ever had was a 'Phemie', back in the '80s. Her full name was Euphemia, presumably after a grandmother.

When I was at school, we'd see 'Senga' as an alternative to 'Agnes' in order to avoid being old-fashioned. I now only see that name attached to my age group - mid-sixties.

We used to see a lot of names inspired by soap characters. One year, I had an S1 class containing a Blake, an Alexis and a Fallon.

😁 Fans of Dynasty no doubt.

I think that some boy names, in particular, sound to be what might be described as "hard case." Is it the case that parents who want their children to have a bit of "kick" in them choose that sort of name and then parent accordingly?

I think Tyler is quite a good example. I don't imagine anyone choosing Tyler if they imagined their son was going to be a bookish, gentle creature who studies pre-Raphaelite artists. To me Tyler is destined to be a sportsman or businessman. (NB that doesn't mean that, as chance would have it, he can't turn out to be an expert on the decoration of ancient Greek vases).

I think names like Princess for girls must often also signal how they want their DD to be viewed and to feel ...

I don't think any of that line of thought is classist or racist; it is simply reading cues.

Oakley, Jackson and Layla here...

Nice to see it's not full of Irish names like it was last time I noticed this topic!

Oh, there's a good few Irish names on here. Including the names of my own sons, my nephew and my dog All of whom are, of course, immaculately behaved ;)

I hate seeing names judged by their derivation, ethnicity or class, it's such an unpleasant attitude. Yes, I know I could just hide the thread, but it pisses me off tbh.

Airyfaerie · 28/01/2026 14:50

As a non-parent (ie. I don't really know any kids with these names) this is so funny to me, all these names seem so twee and sweet!

Thinking about the naughty kids in my own school days:
Gareth
Craig
Gavin
Aaron
Kelly
Amy
Vicky
Laura
Charlotte
Heidi

And is this because they are determined their dc must stand out at all costs - even if it means being completely non-compliant and awkward?

Special name, special rules apply ...

TeenYearsAreBrutal · 28/01/2026 14:53

Riley. Never met a well behaved one.

IS it actually this though? We have established that MC Archie can be seen as naughty, just as some other less MC names can.

Surely some posh people want their DC to stand out and be Special, just as much as some WC parents do?

WimbyAce · 28/01/2026 14:53

Have seen 1 daughter and 1 cat mentioned so far 😬

Enjoying this thread as none of my dc’s names feature (they are teens now) but lots of my friends’ littler dcs names do! Josh was the naughty boy name back in my day.

It seems to go in cycles.

I've taught some quiet boys by the name of Josh or Joshua, but a couple of tearaways as well.

For some reason, we had a spell of boys coming in with "T.J." or "T-J" as their official name. (At least, that's what we were told.) I'm not quite sure where that came from.

ISTR that there's a series of maths textbooks called "Teejay Publications" - in that case, it apparently comes from the initials of the two authors.

Well I bet it's true of the cat!

DD we will give the benefit of the doubt, but all cats are spoiled!

Genuinely, parents who were a bit wealthier tended to try to throw their weight around more than those who were working class - at least in the state schools where I worked.

TillyTrifle · 28/01/2026 11:58

Round here Archie is a very upper middle class name, def not one I would put on that list!

So are you saying that UC children are never PITA little sods??

TBH I wouldn’t have thought Archie was an UC, or even a MC preserve any more. The name was given a popular boost after H and M chose it for their first.
Personally I don’t like it at all.

suziequeue1 · 28/01/2026 14:59

ADAM!!!!!! I have never met a well-behaved Adam. I was a primary school teacher and also have cousins, friend's kids and in laws' kids called Adam and every single Adam I have ever met has been an absolute menace!!!!

YesSirICanNameChange · 28/01/2026 15:02

The class thing is bollocks; I taught in a school in an incredibly deprived area, and a school with a 50/50 split of very deprived and very rich (sixth formers learning to fly their parents helicopters etc).

I'd go back to the very deprived school in a heartbeat; I'd never go back to the 50/50 split, and it's because of the wealthier students. The entitlement was dripping from them and their attitudes were atrocious; their parents saw teachers as "the help" and encouraged shitty attitudes from their kids.

The idea that upper and middle class kids are well behaved is a load of shit.

😁 Fans of Dynasty no doubt.

Towards the end of my career I still saw the occasional Alexis or Blake, but that was the only Fallon I ever encountered. I've seen a few Crystals in my time.

The most genuinely evil thing that I've ever heard of was the local primary school where a teacher had named her class groups after soap families... One group was called The Dingles.

Letsorderpizza · 28/01/2026 15:02

Luca / Luka

There was a lovely Adam in my class when I was in P1. Met him at a school reunion last year - he's now married to one of my primary pals.
