Does the name Olive Mac sound like I am describing a rain mac? Or am I overthinking that?

meant to say the full name will be Matilda Olive Mac , does that sound like I am describing a rain mac?

there are sentimental reasons linked to a friend with the Mac

So Olive and Mac are both middles? I think that’s totally fine. I was about to say just Olive Mac was fine anyway to my ear, as Olive is a name as much as a colour. If you were using say Blue Mac that would be different.

northernladys · 25/01/2026 04:54

Yes that definitely makes sense, I think more of the tree for Olive also!

LittleGungHo · 25/01/2026 07:59

Is the olive sentimental as well?

Could you look at the order or I personally would just go for Mac?

Olive Mac in your first post, before you add the Matilda sounds a little bit like something you would see on a menu (like Mac n Cheese).

northernladys · 25/01/2026 08:01

Yes both sentimental

If Olive and Mac are both middles I think it's fine.

Threadreplier · 25/01/2026 08:32

Me too. If Olive was first name and Mac surname, I'd probably avoid. But middle names won't be said without the others and it's lovely that they're sentimental. So all round it's lovely.

Tocsin · 25/01/2026 08:35

I think you could honour Olive by using Olivia. It would run much better and not sound adjectival.

Matilda Olivia Mac.

northernladys · 25/01/2026 08:39

Really not keen on Olivia but thanks for the suggestion x

What do we think of daisy olive Mac?

OP posts:
Makingpeace · 25/01/2026 08:47

Prefer Matilda. Daisy is a bit twee.

northernladys · 25/01/2026 08:48

Would it work as a flower name as first?

OP posts:
Moreteaandchocolate · 25/01/2026 10:30

I like both Matilda or Daisy Olive Mac. I slightly prefer Daisy to Matilda so would go with that myself.

northernladys · 25/01/2026 08:45

What do we think of daisy olive Mac?

as opposed to a M&S olive mac?

user1492757084 · 25/01/2026 12:37

I love Matilda Olive. Mac is tricky.
You run the risk of the second middle name being included as your daughter's surname.
For example:
Matilda Olive Mac Surname = Matilda O MacSurname.

Also, do you like the initials MOM Surname?

CrostaDiPizza · 25/01/2026 12:58

Won't the full name be something like Matilda Olive Mac Surname?
Will you be calling her little sister Jemima Scarlett Parker Surname?

Middle names don't get used much, but I'd not be using the ones you've mentioned. What really matters is does Matilda Surname sound good.

northernladys · 25/01/2026 13:09

I don’t understand jemima suggestion?

OP posts:
CrostaDiPizza · 25/01/2026 13:09

Scarlett Parker & Olive Mac.

northernladys · 25/01/2026 13:10

Oh I’ve got it now but it took a while and I actually like it. 🤣

OP posts:
northernladys · 25/01/2026 13:10

If anything that’s probably made me see it’s not immediately obvious

Olive Mac does not sound good to my ears, no. In fact 'Mac' is not a name, is it?

Overthebow · 25/01/2026 13:17

Isn’t Mac a boys name? I’m not sure I’d use it with those names.

starrylightts · 25/01/2026 13:43

If you're planning on more children couldn't you have Olive as a middle name here and use Mac if you have a boy? Do you have to put all the sentimental names on to one child? I wouldn't want to have Mac as a middle name so I wouldn't do that to my child. The name might have meaning for you but will the child know who this person is? My mum went through childhood pretending she didn't have any middle names as she hated hers and hers didn't add up to an item of clothing or include a boys name.

user2848502016 · 25/01/2026 13:55

It does a bit sorry!
Matilda is nice but I just don’t think Olive works with Mac

Firebird83 · 28/01/2026 22:19

Daisy Olive Mac - an olive green mac with daisies on it. Matilda is better.
