Are these names awful? Do you like any of them and if so, which?

Rocco if you have Italian heritage.

Roscoe if American.

If neither think again.

Moreteaandchocolate · 24/01/2026 20:15

Roscoe

Hockorydickerydock · 24/01/2026 20:17

Rocco

MotorbikeStuntRider · 24/01/2026 20:18

Middle name Purvis? (And a brother called Boss)

Btowngirl · 24/01/2026 20:19

I like rocco. Rosco would get shortened to Ross which I am not very fond of.

YouBelongWithMe · 24/01/2026 20:19

Think they're both awful, sorry.

begonia27 · 24/01/2026 20:24

For anyone with any F1 knowledge, Roscoe will always be Lewis Hamilton’s dog. He was a most excellent dog, but just in case you weren’t aware!

SunnyViper · 24/01/2026 20:25

My dog is called Roscoe.

WanderlustMom · 24/01/2026 22:19

Rocco, I love that name. Definitely was in my top 3 if I was having a boy this time

OldGothsFadeToGrey · 24/01/2026 22:21

Yack

Was about to say this !

Agree with them sounding Italian and American.

Others similar ..
Ross - crisp and non fussy
Roland - nice nickname.
Pasco - Easter related
Francisco
Cisco - energetic and cowboy vibes
Scott - smart
Vasco - Vasco Da Gama
Basco - related to Basque regions
Bosco - woods, forest.
Rosco - better spelling than Roscoe

Blondieeeee · 24/01/2026 22:43

Yep I like Roscoe and like the nn Ross

SharonEllis · 24/01/2026 22:44

Dog names.

GoldenRosebee · 25/01/2026 05:29

I like Roscoe and would suggest Roland

MarchAprilMay · 25/01/2026 05:32

Definitely names for dogs. A bit like Benji, Oscar, Milo.

cariadlet · 25/01/2026 07:33

Both pretty awful, sorry.

I hadn't thought of them as dog names before reading pp but I agree with others that they do make good dog names.

OttersMayHaveShifted · 25/01/2026 07:36

Not a fan. To me they both sound like characters out of a lame 1970s cop show or something!

starrynight009 · 25/01/2026 07:39

If you like them, go for it. But they're more dog names to me. Although I'm now imagining a sweet, sensitive boy being called Rocco and it's making me chuckle.

Clawdy · 25/01/2026 07:47

Rocco - cool name

I was trying to think of why Roscoe sounded familiar when I have never met anyone with that name - Rosco was the corrupt, inept sheriff in Dukes of Hazzard.

lostarc · 25/01/2026 08:15

Roscoe is from the Dukes of Hazzard. I appreciate I am showing my age however that’s the first thing I thought of. Possibly anyone from the 80s will think the same.

RaraRachael · 25/01/2026 08:24

Neither

Snorlaxo · 25/01/2026 08:25

Madonna named one of her kids Rocco. This isn’t a problem since nobody your child’s age will know who Madonna is plus he seems to be a normal adult but an fyi that older people might comment. Do you have Italian heritage ?

I think that unless you live in the US where any surname can be turned into a first name, I would assume that Roscoe is a grown man or teen who is called by his surname. I’ve read on here that it’s a dog’s name but there seems to be less distinction between human and animal names these days.

Pettenell · 25/01/2026 08:29

I like both, but like Roscoe best.
