Aoibhín?

We’re considering this name for DC4, who we’ve just found out is a girl!. It would be pronounced Ee-Veen where we’re from, although I know some pronounce it Ay-Veen. We already have a Fódhla, Odhrán and Cúan. Any thoughts?.

its a lovely name

DramaAlpaca · 14/01/2026 15:22

I think it's a beautiful name. I've only seen it spelled Aoibhínn before and I think it looks even nicer with the double n at the end. I pronounce it the same as you do.

Great choice!

MN is going to have great fun with it, though!

Fine apart from Evie being overused and the Eeveen/Ayveen issue.

How do you say Fódhla, Odhrán and Cúan. Are they Fo-la, O-ran and Ku-an?

DontCallMeLenYouLittleBollix · 14/01/2026 15:27

I really like it, but you're definitely going to get Ay-veen and I must admit I'd reflexively use 2 ns.

As I am Irish in Ireland tis a fairly standard name just tell people how to pronounce it before you show them the spelling so they say it the way you do.

Henriella · 14/01/2026 15:46

It’s lovely. I think you have the spelling right. I’ve never seen a fada and a double n used together.

GhostMutt · 14/01/2026 15:51

If you like it, go for it.
You’ve already got three very Irish names - surely you’ll have considered/ experienced any negatives anyone could mention before with the others.

Moreteaandchocolate · 14/01/2026 18:45

I like it!

mathanxiety · 18/01/2026 01:21

Lovely - and you're pronouncing it right!!

It goes really well with your other (gorgeous) names.
