His full name would be James to give him options but we'd call him Jamie.

Classic, really nice.

Not classic at all.

Duckiewasthefirstniceguy · 14/01/2026 06:38

Lannister.

PixelDustMom · 14/01/2026 06:40

My brother is called James. He’s known as Jamie but we call him Jay for short. He’s in his 40’s.

James was our dad’s middle name, and is my partner and sons middle name.

WineBeforeWhine · 14/01/2026 06:42

Jamie - Yellowstone

Lollylavender · 14/01/2026 07:29

Sounds feminine to me. But I know 2 young women named Jamie.

LamonicBibber1 · 14/01/2026 07:38

It reminds me of James from that programme "The End Of The F***g World" which I love haha, so it's good to me!

It's your baby. You get to choose! It really, really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, as long as it's not a name like Mussolini or Robocop. Go with your heart.

Cairneyes · 14/01/2026 07:40

Another one here with a son called Jamie. Well, at least he was. He went away to university as Jamie and came back as James! But that was one of the reasons I chose the name, because there are SO many potential options that can be used at different life stages if wanted, I’m predicting he will be Grandad Jim in the future!

Crazykatie · 14/01/2026 07:44

Jamie is babyish, by all means call him Jamie at home but christen him James He can then choose what he uses professionally, then you have the best of both worlds.

Bigdayout · 14/01/2026 07:50

Jamie Fraser from Outlander!
It's a lovely name, both James and Jamie.

In America it is often a female name. I love it though, for a boy, but would use James officially to name the baby.

Jamie is not short for James! It’s actually more syllables.

The one I’m married to often finds himself being very firm with people that it’s a name in it’s own right and NOT short for James! So honouring DH by sharing his views!

NotMineNotYours · 14/01/2026 08:08

Jamie Dornan, Jamie Foxx

I like both James and Jamie.

funkystars123 · 14/01/2026 08:18

I have a James…. He's nearly 20 now and one of the reasons we chose it was because it has so many options. He's been/ is J, Jim, Jamie and James. I think he has landed on James but I love the fact he had options!

GetyourheadoutoftheovenIris · 14/01/2026 08:28

Love James, hate Jamie.

Jamie is naughty.

Lollylavender · 14/01/2026 08:35

Jamie is ok but why don’t like James - it looks like the plural of Jame!

ThatsPlentyIsa · 14/01/2026 08:46

I’m from the 1970s so it’s always ‘… and his Magic Torch’. This will not apply to anyone born after 1980.

Jamie in my head is a big but gentle Scottish man in a plaid shirt. My GF was christened James but always Jem at home - if I’d had a son, he’d have been either Jem or Jamie, after him.

MillsMollsMands · 14/01/2026 08:46

Jamie is one of my most favourite names. But I have two ex boyfriends called it!

MadamCholetsbonnet · 14/01/2026 08:46

Absolutely love it

WhenmybabygoestoRio · 14/01/2026 08:50

Jamie Oliver

DelphiniumBlue · 14/01/2026 08:50

I have a Jamie, called that to distinguish him from my Dad, also a James. My Jamie is lovely ❤️.
I’ve noticed recently that younger boys ( primary age) are Jimmy rather than Jamie.

ForFunGoose · 14/01/2026 08:51

I don’t like it at all, prefer James/Jim.

Ha! That theme tune popped into my head as soon as I saw the thread title Grin

And like @landlordhell I couldn't have imagined an elderly Jamie. Until I met a nonagenarian one and it absolutely suited him!

Names evolve though and the nickname/short name you think your child will have is not necessarily the one they end up using.

Bbq1 · 14/01/2026 08:59

Dad was Jim (James) my dB is, also James. He was called Jam by friends growing up. From his
early 20s he, started going by Jim. Only we, as close family still address him as James.

ZenZazie · 14/01/2026 09:00

Teacher here. Reminds me naughty boys🤣it's a name i never associate with an adult. If the actual name is James this could be used professionally if desired i suppose. James a classic name.

The most clever and studious person I know is a Jamie. I say they design spaceships but actually their job is even more clever than that and I couldn’t tell you what it was. But then also common for naughty boys. I was thinking it has a very wide range for characteristics in the Jamie’s I know.
