Boy names - help!

Hi everyone!

Currently 35+2 with our first baby and all of a sudden I have sort of gone off all the boys names we had shortlisted!

We don’t know the sex of the baby, and our girls name is set in stone and I’m very happy with it, but I’m having a total crisis about boys names!

Names we have on our list are:
Patrick (my favourite but DH likes it too)
Alexander (DH’s favourite but I like it too)
Christopher (neither of our favourites but we both like it)

I still like these names but don’t know if I love any of them enough to call my baby…

Randomly I’ve begun to consider and like Heath over the last few days, but I don’t know if it’s all just hormones and the panic of impending birth and finding out what we’ve got!

I guess what I’m asking is… has this happened to anyone else? Is it normal? And does anyone have any suggestions on which name they like?

Thank you!

I love Patrick!
Also like Alexander, not as keen on Christopher but it’s ok.

I don’t like Heath sorry!

Why not wait until the baby’s born and see what fits best? (and if it’s a girl there’s no need to worry anyway!)

Moreteaandchocolate · 09/01/2026 18:10

Patrick, Alexander and Christopher are all lovely! Alexander is my favourite 🤩 Heath isn’t for me.

RecordBreakers · 09/01/2026 18:21

I really like Alexander.

Not so keen on Patrick or Christopher.

Heath is awful.

So I'd blame hormones and stick with what you are thinking.
Some people say you 'know' when you see the baby though I've never had that myself so it might be worth sticking with the 3 you have and waiting to see. Then, if you are still undecided, you could draw one of them out of a hat.

Goandygo · 09/01/2026 18:28

I love all 3.
What about....
Dominic
Benjamin
Peter
Luke
Joseph ?

I have a Heath. He suits his name and gets lots of positive comments about his name. We've met quite a few over the years. We gave him a very normal middle name so he could choose this instead but he has chosen to keep Heath.

manicpixieschemegirl · 09/01/2026 20:34

I love Patrick Alexander as a first and middle name! Not overly keen on Christopher or Heath.

Other suggestions -

James
Isaac
Thomas
Gabriel
Rory

Patrick and Alexander are both great and I would pick from one of them. Heath is okay, but be wary of picking a name that hasn't sat with you comfortably over a longer period as your other list has. The 3 on your long term list have the safety of classics. If in doubt, I always think, go back to the classics.

TheBirdintheCave · 09/01/2026 23:29

I know a Heath. He’s a really cool guy :)

I think I’d pick Christopher from your list though.

My daughter’s name was a wildcard pick from my family tree which I remembered existed at around 35 weeks. Before then we’d had a completely different favourite for years. No regrets though! It suits her perfectly :D

Good advice.

Also, you don't have to absolutely love a name to call your baby it. If you have not gravitated to a name that is 'the one' then I think one of these excellent 3 classics will serve your child very well throughout their life. Personally, I think Heath is also nice.

miniaturepixieonacid · 09/01/2026 23:37

I absolutely love Patrick and Alexander - they are two of my favourite boy names. I also like Christopher but am not keen on Heath.

In case we have smilar taste, my other favourite boy names are:
Nicholas, Jesse, Elliot, Rowan, Robin, Noah, Morgan, Oscar, Jacob, Joshua, Xavier and Zachary

Onefortheroad25 · 09/01/2026 23:41

Ok..you’re just having a wobble! Alexander & Patrick are great names. Heath is awful. Wait and see, might be a girl! Good luck!

Lollylavender · 10/01/2026 08:55

Patrick is a great name.

Alex is so overused - we know so many boys and girls named Alex.

RegalDiamondMonster · 10/01/2026 15:02

I like Patrick and Heath. Alexander and Christopher would be good middle names.

I'd choose Patrick Alexander.

justsayitonemoretime · 10/01/2026 22:32

Patrick is very nice, Alexander though is my favourite, Christopher, unless called Kit I'm not so keen on tbh.
Sorry OP, Heath doesn't sound nice to me, and I personally don't like the sound of the name when I say it aloud. That's just me of course!
