Narrowing down the list for our baby boy and curious what these names bring to mind/what vibes they give? Please be totally honest - would be happy to narrow it down further!
Charles
Augustin
James
Raphael
Tiago/Santiago
Julius
Xavier

Charles - the king - an upright little kid who's very particular about everything
Augustin - disgustin augustin. don't like at all.
James - normal, typical kid
Raphael - cool boy, long hair, at least two gfs by year 3.
Tiago / Santiago - cool kid, sporty
Xavier - funny, his own person, makes his own path

dgwhatisthis · 09/01/2026 02:45

Charles - older name but classic. Would probably go by Charlie, which sounds nicer to me.

Augustin - I'd think you spelled Augustine wrongly. Like some strange blend of Austin and Augustine. Knew a boy with a similar name who went by Augie.

James - Classic name. I always thought it was a bit boring. Nn of Jamie makes it workable for me. I really like Jamie.

Raphael - the archangel. I like this name. Would probably go by Raffy.

Tiago/Santiago - Tiago, doesn't make me think of anything, just a name I haven't heard of. Santiago, makes me think of place names. I'd probably also think you might be South American.

Julius - I've known one in my life. Went by Jules. I prefer Julian but nothing wrong with Julius.

Xavier - I know two ways to pronounce this and wouldn't know which you'd prefer. I quite like the name and the spelling looks interesting.

I would think with all of those names that the child has French and Italian parents. If you live in the UK I hope you live in a moneyed and diverse area!

GreenCandleWax · 09/01/2026 02:56

Classy but not pretentious is the vibe I get. All good,😃 except maybe Santiago as it means St. James.

Moreteaandchocolate · 09/01/2026 07:53

Charles - sounds quite posh if full name used day to day, but Charlie for short is great

James - lovely classic, classy name that suits anyone

Augustin, Raphael, Santiago, Julius, Xavier - all a bit fancy-sounding for my taste. I’d assume Spanish /Italian / French heritage or a posh family (or a family trying to sound posh!) I like Tiago a lot if you do have related heritage.

Glittergargoyle · 09/01/2026 09:03

The children of Swiss bankers

(Raphael is my fav)

Bobbieiris · 09/01/2026 09:59

They’re a bit frilly and fancy aren’t they. I love James…a nice solid classic name :)

DuchessOfNarcissex · 09/01/2026 12:15

Charles - suits any age. Charlie is great, Chas ok.
Augustin - isn't it Augustine? OK I suppose. Like Gus.
James - suits any age. Jamie, Jim ok
Raphael - not keen. (Heard it screeched at brats too much.)
Tiago/Santiago - St James? - not keen.
Julius - ok but not keen
Xavier - Like it but don't like ex-avier. There used to be a poster on here who insisted it should only be said the Spanish way and that massively put me off the name.

I'd narrow it down to James or Charles.
(I definitely am not picking up 'rich parents' vibes from the others. Dislike Julian.)

Girasoli · 09/01/2026 13:22

I like James, Charles, and Raphael, am neutral on Tiago but am not too keen on Julius or Augustin. Julian or August I think are nicer..

I'd guess you were Catholic (am also Catholic and your names have a Saint/Pope feel)

nondrinker1985 · 09/01/2026 13:25

Charles - guess he’s the King so why not?
Augustin - parents studied classics
James - easy name
Raphael - Italian parentage?
Tiago/Santiago - where said child was conceived
Julius - just no
Xavier - this is just people trying to be posh who aren’t

Louielove · 09/01/2026 13:26

Rome and Italy for me

Hedjwitch · 09/01/2026 13:27

James is nice if it doesn't become Jamie or Jim.

AgentPidge · 09/01/2026 13:36

I love Raphael - my favourite from your list. I also love Gabriel. James is a fine name but a bit boring. Santiago - I would assume you were European (even though the others have eg. Hebrew origins, Santiago isn't a usual name for a Brit.) The others - Augustin(e) is a bit grand/old-fashioned, but Gus is fabulous! But they are all usable.

RegalDiamondMonster · 09/01/2026 14:42

Charles - never been a fan, dislike the sound, stuffy name
Augustin - I like August but not Gus, ok name
James - very middle of the road, popular name
Raphael - trendy name, like Raffy
Tiago/Santiago - I've known a couple of Spanish Santiagos, both went by Santi, ok name.
Julius - old-fashioned landed gentry type European.
Xavier - X Men/Spanish footballer.

NotMyProblemAnymore · 09/01/2026 14:54

Charles
Augustin
James
Raphael
Tiago/Santiago
Julius
Xavier

James is solid; classic and I really like Jamie, but not Jim, Jimmy- too dated imo.

Julius,-way to pretentious for my liking and Jules, uh- uh.
Xavier is good, like Zach, just a nice sound to Xavier.

Charles sounds stuffy to me, and elderly. Charlie, never liked that version either.

Louielove · 09/01/2026 15:13

I love Gabriel for a boy

also Gene

Jugendstiel · 09/01/2026 15:18

Charles - the King. Otherwise, slightly chubby, blond, curly haired banker types from 1980s
Augustin - thin, slightly eccentric loner with a sad past and wealthy but unloving family
James - hearty, smiling, socially at ease, bright but not overly ambitious (I like this name)
Raphael - dark curly hair, artistic, successful musician or playwright or actor. I love this name.
Tiago/Santiago - little rascal
Julius - slightly heavy and pallid ponderous upper middle class man. Seems rather dull but has a dry sense of humour. Right wing.
Xavier - French exchange student.

TrentCrimmsflowinglocks · 09/01/2026 17:24

Do you have Italian /Spanish heritage? If so, Raphael / Tiago are decent. However, I would think it weird for an English kid with English parents to be called Tiago….

MadamCholetsbonnet · 09/01/2026 17:32

James and Xavier are good.

Charles is pompous
Augustin faintly ridiculous
Raphael is a ninja turtle, no?
Santiago makes me think of Danni Dyer
Julius is an old slightly creepy professor

podge98 · 09/01/2026 17:37

Charles - middle aged banker - prefer Charlie for a little boy.

Augustin - saintly. Quite a mouthful. Don’t really like it.

James - classic, timeless but totally dull.

Raphael - Raph sounds quite cool but again, it’s a mouthful and sounds a bit pretentious.

Tiago/Santiago - one of those chavtastic names that’s trying to sound posh.

Julius - Caesar. Quite like Jules as a nn though. Julian?

Xavier - X-men. But I do like it, it’s unusual without being ridiculous.

AgnesMcDoo · 09/01/2026 17:38

James is fabulous

in don’t like any of the other

Elleoeez · 10/01/2026 10:57

Are you or your DH from South America?

user1492757084 · 10/01/2026 11:16

All names I like, except Julius.

My faves are Charles and Xavier.

Do you like Augustus? I prefer it to Augustine.
