We don’t know what we are having yet but have our boys names sorted. Totally stuck for girls and would love some thoughts on the following

Iris
Indy
Beatrix
Etta
Clara
Nell

thank you!

I love Iris and Nell (although I would probably use a longer name like Helena, Eleanor or Penelope on the bc).

Clara is ok, but I prefer Lara.

The other 3 really aren't my style.

DustlandFairytaleBeginning · 08/01/2026 20:24

Clara. I really wanted this name but Clara Clarkson just sounded ridiculous. I am still sad!

Moreteaandchocolate · 08/01/2026 21:00

My order of preference

  1. Clara - my favourite girls name at the moment - would be top of my list if I had another girl
  2. Iris - lovely, I love the sound and that it’s both traditional and modern sounding, and I only know of one little one with the name
  3. Nell - I love a short, simple name and this is so pretty and classic
  4. Beatrix - I like Bea but Beatrix / Beatrice sound a bit harsh to me
  5. Etta - I do love this but can’t unhear “Ate a”
  6. Indy - I do love this too but I only know a boy with the name and it feels quite casual as a full name for when she’s older to me
ChocoChocoLatte · 08/01/2026 21:03

Lovely list.

HugoYorway · 08/01/2026 21:11

Nell - like. Wouldn't use a longer name
Iris - like
Etta - ate a ...
Indy- don't like. I like Ingrid.
Beatrix - beer tricks
Clara - don't like but like Cara

tarheelbaby · 08/01/2026 21:22

I think if you're choosing a short form, it's good to give a longer form on the BC.

Iris - the goddess of the rainbow
Indy - needs a long form; India ? Cynthia?
Beatrix - great choice, 'Blessed', use Bea or Trixie as short forms
Etta - lovely NN but needs a longer form; add 'etta to names not on this list: e.g. Violette; Cornetta; Elisabetta
Clara - 'clear, famous, bright' ; Clarissa = very ...
Nell - short form for Eleanor or Cornelia or Penelope

agirlandherdog1234 · 08/01/2026 21:55

Iris - I like

Indy - I like, but do feel it's a bit nick namey- probably needs a longer form. India?

Beatrix - I like!

Etta - I love. Vintage vibes!

Clara - nice :)

Nell- lovely, but it feels incomplete as a full name in my opinion. Works as a shortened version of a longer name

miniaturepixieonacid · 08/01/2026 23:04

Iris - love it. My favourite on your list by a long way.
Indy - like it but only whn short for India, not on its own.
Beatrix - quite like it. And Bea is a cute diminutive.
Etta - really like it. Kind of think it needs a long version but not sure.
Clara - quite like it.
Nell - this is the only one I don't like. I find it so plain and 'stolid' somehow.

GBR1980 · 08/01/2026 23:19

Clara is my favourite

Pettenell · 08/01/2026 23:21

I love Iris, Beatrix and Nell. I do like Nell on its own, as well as a short form for something else. I think these 3 are cool, lovely names!

Indy just doesn't have the same panache, but would work as a nn for Indigo or Ingrid.

Etta and Clara are ok, but I am not keen on the sounds.

similarminimer · 08/01/2026 23:26

Would you consider Nina?

Mumofgirls2017 · 09/01/2026 07:47

Love Iris, Etta and Clara! Nell if short for Eleanor/ Helena/ penelope. others not for me personally

ResusciAnnie · 09/01/2026 07:51

Iris - really like but she’d have to be delicate IMO. Which my offspring don’t have much chance of 😆

Indy - no

Beatrix - it’s ok. Better than Beatrice. I like Bea.

Etta - Etta James, v good namesake

Clara - too twee for me

Nell - again a bit twee but I adore Penelope best of all, so Penelope NN Nell would be my vote.

DinoDances · 09/01/2026 10:44

I really like Beatrix and Iris. Clara always feels too serious to me, very straight laced, and the others are too nicknamey for my taste. But none are bad options.

amy480 · 09/01/2026 13:30

Iris is my fave. I prefer names that can’t be shortened and although I like Beatrix she will very likely end up being Bea. Indy I’m less keen on and feels like a nickname - nice on a baby through to teen but not sure about Indy on a grown woman.

Cocktailsandcheese · 09/01/2026 17:00

I don't like Nell as I always think it seems too short unless it's a nickname. I like all your other options though, particularly Clara, Iris and Etta.

TrentCrimmsflowinglocks · 09/01/2026 17:25

Iris is lovely.
