Jasmine - is this too boring/dated?

Hi, my daughter is 3 weeks old. Do you think Jasmine is too safe/boring or too dated?

Me and my husband have uncommon names.
my sons name is heard of but definitely not popular.
My eldest daughter’s names is uncommon, 3 syllable name which is often a bit of a marmite name but is a conversation starter and still my favourite name of all time!

I wanted a similar style name for my baby daughter but couldn’t commit to one. (I love 3 syllables ending in a sound).

I absolutely love the name Eliza and this was the top contender throughout the pregnancy. But I’m worried it’s having a bit of a popularity rise at the moment (I seem to be hearing it everywhere). And as previously mentioned the rest of the family have uncommon names. Plus my hubby struggled to remember this name!

Baby was also called Yasmin for about 10hours but then I changed my mind to Jasmine.

I’m also concerned about what suits our ethnicity, she’s mixed (mostly black British) and was worried Eliza and Yasmin didn’t suit her.

So my question is, do I stick with Jasmine or do you prefer Yasmin or Eliza?

Thanks

I think it's about due a revival. Jasmine is nice, might depend how you feel about it being shortened to Jazz, which I think is cute but might not be up your street.

isargosaword · 31/12/2025 10:59

I think it’s lovely. Pretty but not cutesy, known but not overly popular.

Letsgoforaskip · 31/12/2025 11:03

I think that both Jasmine and Eliza are beautiful names. Names can be such a personal choice. I completely sympathise - I had a couple of options for my daughter which I was still pondering after she was born.

Allthesnowallthetime · 31/12/2025 11:04

I like Jasmine.

What about Jessamine?

Twoshoesnewshoes · 31/12/2025 11:05

It’s lovely OP
can have mina as a nn too

BoleynMemories13 · 31/12/2025 11:05

I much prefer Eliza. It's actually on a downward trend now in the 2020s, after peeking in the 2010s.

Jasmine is ok, but a bit dull compared to Eliza. I don't see why Eliza or Yasmin wouldn't suit a mixed race child? I know of mixed race children with both names, if that helps? (teenagers now)

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 31/12/2025 11:05

Good solid name. I've never met one I didn't like! It's feminine and pretty but not too girly girly.

awrbc81 · 31/12/2025 11:06

I prefer Eliza out of the 3, you could also go for Elizabeth with Eliza for short

Jasmine is really pretty too though , it’s nicer than Yasmin

I’d just go for the one you love most and not worry about popularity too much, my youngest DDs name is top 100 but she’s the only one in her school

FlutteryButterfly · 31/12/2025 11:06

Both nice names!

Also....

Yasmin
Jemima
Delilah

itsthetea · 31/12/2025 11:07

I like Yasmin and Jasmine. Both would suit any race

SpareMe · 31/12/2025 11:08

My vote would be for Jasmine over the other names. It's beautiful. Not common.

She will get called Jazz though. Also very pretty I think, but a very different vibe.

tarheelbaby · 31/12/2025 11:16

Jasmine is known but not frequent so a good option. It's easy to spell and pronounce too and internationally would be pronounced Yasmin(a). Jazz is a fun short form. The only one I knew was called Min-min in the family - very much a private, baby name.

What about Jocelyn? That's 3 syllables and not very often heard.

Eliza is nice too; I considered this for my DDs as a short form for Elizabeth (both MILs are named this!).

1fluffydoodle · 31/12/2025 11:18

Jasmina is another option if you want something less common

Purplecatshopaholic · 31/12/2025 11:20

Jasmine is a lovely name.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 31/12/2025 11:37

Jasmine Eliza then she can switch the names around at a later stage.

Emanwenym · 31/12/2025 12:38

Jasmine is lovely.
Eliza is OK but there seem to be a lot of El- names around.
I don't like Jasmina.

miniaturepixieonacid · 31/12/2025 13:21

I think Jasmine is pretty and not very common nowadays (but not dated - one of those names where there you always know a couple but never dozens).

I like Yasmin too. Less keen on Eliza.

Agree with pps that Jocelyn and Jemima seem to fit the bill. Also perhaps Jessamy, Jacinta or Juliette.

Lins77 · 31/12/2025 13:24

Jasmine is my favourite of the "flower" type names. It's very pretty.

GetToHeaven · 31/12/2025 13:25

My friend has a Jasmine who’s 10 now and she’s the only one in her school. Not sure if it’s become more popular since but it’s definitely not everywhere. I’ve always thought it was a lovely name.

dailyconniptions · 31/12/2025 13:26

I like Jasmine. I also like Cassia.

I also love the name Iris (forgot that).

NotNowFGS · 31/12/2025 13:29

Like it. It won't date. Pretty without being twee.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 31/12/2025 13:33

Jasmine is lovely. I dont like Jas but do like Mina, might be hard to channel people into Mina though.

Alternative suggestion if you want one - Nerissa. It's from Shakespeare. Can be shortened to Riss.

TheMAFSfan · 31/12/2025 13:34

I love Jasmine

I like Jasmine. I also like Cassia.

Cassia was also on my list but the hubby wasn’t keen
