Which one do you prefer - if you dislike all 3, what other suggestions for a similar vibe?

Henry, no contest. It feels the most classic to me and gives him plenty of options as an adult- he can be Henry, Harry, Hal, Henners, Hank… More interesting historical namesakes too. Harry feels a bit blah as I know so many and Harvey feels quite insta/celeb to me to be honest (because it makes me think of pop culture like the film, Weinstein, Harvey Nichols etc).

Similar to Henry would be other classics- William, Edward, Alexander, George, James, Thomas etc. Or maybe other semi-classics that end in an “ee” sound like Louis or Toby.

I have adored Henry from my teens, and it has been on the list for 'names for a future son' since then.

I quite like Harry, but I'm not quite a fan of Harvey. It reminds me opposite ends of a spectrum, i.e. Harvey Nichols and someone from secondary school.

Knittedanimal · 17/12/2025 20:27

Henry.
Harvey is a dog's or sex offender's name.
Harry is a bit meh.

Wrenjay · 17/12/2025 20:27

The names all end with "y". Sounds very childish to me, especially when they are eventually grown men.

ChocoChocoLatte · 17/12/2025 20:31

Henry

Emanwenym · 17/12/2025 20:59

Harvey Smith, Henry Kissinger, Harry Redknapp - I don't think 'childish' at all.

LoudSnoringDog · 17/12/2025 21:01

Harry

Harry

Henry - good

Harry - OK

Harvey - so appallingly bad I can’t decide if the people saying they like it are being serious.

Hdpr · 17/12/2025 21:10

Harry, such a wonderful name.
not a single Harry in any of my children’s classes

It’s short for Henry.
So why not go for that then decide what he looks like?

NoelEdmondsHairGel · 17/12/2025 21:20

Henry >>> Harry >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Harvey

ie Henry and Harry are leagues better than Harvey. Terrible name.

Emanwenym · 17/12/2025 21:24

@Elle177 , I like it because I knew people with the name years ago before it had negative associations.

SodiumNitritePlease · 17/12/2025 21:26

Hugo
Herbert

Emanwenym · 17/12/2025 21:31

Humphrey

Gardener82 · 17/12/2025 21:34

Harry Bo!
I have one of my own and he’s lovely.

MirandaBlu · 17/12/2025 21:47

I like Henry best of these, especially as there's a clear tradition of Harry as an affectionate, less formal name for someone with the formal name of Henry so could give him options later on.

How about Aubrey, Eli, Hardy, Rory, Rémy, Sidney ... or perhaps something like Barnabas/Barnaby > Barney, Hugh/Hugo > Huey/Hughie or Tobias > Toby?

Eenameenadeeka · 18/12/2025 03:42

Henry

ChocolateCinderToffee · 18/12/2025 09:17

Watermelonsugar345 · 18/12/2025 17:59

Thanks everyone I’m definitely not going with any of these names now after all the posts 😂

Henry, then you can choose to call him
Harry or Henry as Harry’s a pet form of Henry,
