Hi, I'm expecting in March and it's a girl. Is Romilly a good name?
A slight fly in the ointment is that we had planned Roseann as a middle name as its a mash up of our grans names.
Other names on are list are
Vera
Dorinda
Hailey
Alyssa
Thanks

I prefer Alyssa and Hailey.

But it's your baby, go with what you prefer.

Indecisive1011 · 10/12/2025 23:08

I've literally just posted a thread on the name Romilly as it seems to be gaining traction so I think this answers my question 🤣 . I love the name, it's gorgeous, never heard of it before but now I'm seeing it a lot!

Pettenell · 10/12/2025 23:14

I like Romilly best from your list. I like it with Roseann in the middle.

vapemam · 10/12/2025 23:15

It’s a place in Stockport, guessing you’re not from round Manchester!?

So do I. They sound lovely together. Really pretty names.

catontheironingboard · 10/12/2025 23:19

I know a few little Romillys now but not so many that it’s too fashionable - I like it. What about Romilly Ann (or Anne) Rose? Roseann reminds me of the sitcom/actress Roseanne Barr, and it also is very American - it doesn’t really sound in the same style as Romilly at all!

ScruffMuffin · 10/12/2025 23:21

Romilly is a great name. I know one, who'd be in her early 20s now.

Romilly Roseann is good, but something like Romilly Anna Rose would be even nicer, especially if you don't want the RR.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 10/12/2025 23:25

I quite like it, and prefer it to your other options

Romilly Anna Rose is nice, or if you want the alliteration then Romilly Rosanna is nicer than Romillly Rosanne

It's not like calling your kid Paris though is it, no one has heard of it

User6761 · 10/12/2025 23:27

I immediately think of Romilly Weeks the news presenter. I like it. The similar Romy and Renee also also nice.

Not keen on your other names but I like Vita, Rita, and Roma which are maybe a similar style.

CrostaDiPizza · 11/12/2025 12:27

Romily, Stockport. Jessica Mitford's married name.
I don't like it as a first name.

I used to work with a Renee (Ren-nay). She was great.

SemperIdem · 11/12/2025 12:33

There’s a park and a few roads called “Romilly” where I live, so I struggle to see it as a given name.

Hailey is nice.

KarriTreeSullivan · 11/12/2025 12:58

Congratulations!

I love Romilly! It was massively vetoed for me though as a bit weird 13 years ago, I think it's much more well known now. The middle name doesn't matter at all, it will only be heard in the first few weeks of her life when you introduce her, then quite possibly no one will ever hear it again unless she is asked, or on a couple of very official documents. Choose what is special to you if you want to, don't worry about how it goes with the first name.

Interesting variety of other names though:
Vera - very old lady, still a bit old fashioned I think, has it made it into the sweet old ladies category now?
Dorinda - never hear this and I'd be worried people would call her Door, they would round my way.
Hailey - very 80's/90's
Alyssa - I think possibly a bit 80's/90's and also modern? - Really nice.

ScarletPower · 11/12/2025 13:00

Lovely names. I am a big fan of alliteration

CrostaDiPizza · 11/12/2025 13:36

Will be Rom or Milly. Roseann seems dated. Rosanna is pretty.

I wouldn’t use it but I actually like Paris as a name! I worked with a little girl called Paris years ago and it was adorable on her. Paris from Gilmore Girls too. I feel like most people will still associate it with Hilton.

aelfgifu2 · 11/12/2025 13:47

I can't believe that anyone would say they've not heard of Romiley village. There's a very active Facebook page where the main topic of conversation is traffic lights and cycle lanes!

Also, Ian McKellen is from Romiley. Have you heard of him?!

I think it's a beautiful name. It was a geographical impossibility for me though.

CrostaDiPizza · 11/12/2025 13:52

Vera - Duckworth. Aloe. Shame because I know some nice Veras
Dorinda - I like it but it's a bit witchy.
Hailey - lots of Hayleys my age. Seems dated
Alyssa - I like it but think it would get mixed up with Alicia

Mosaic80 · 11/12/2025 13:54

I think Romilly Roseann is lovely. I don’t know any Romillys, none in either of my DC’s school years or among friends DC.

CrostaDiPizza · 11/12/2025 13:56

Also, Ian McKellen is from Romiley. Have you heard of him?! Not according to Wiki. Ian McKellen - Wikipedia

seveneight · 11/12/2025 14:00

Romilly is gorgeous. Not so keen on Roseann with it though, although Ann and Rose separately would work.

MaloryJones · 11/12/2025 14:15

There is a reporter on the local news , or national maybe, called Romilly Weakes.
I think its a lovely name so I would go for it, OP

That's exactly what I was thinking.😂

Absolutely never heard of Romiley village, I don't think I have ever been to the Stockport area. I have heard of Ian McKellen but unless a famous person is from your town I don't think many people pay much attention to wear a famous person is from do they? And why would a Facebook group about a very specific part of a small part of the Manchester area pop up on everyone's Facebook page? Quite a lot of people aren't' from Stockport or live anywhere near it.

(Just in case I sound stroppy and snotty, I'm don't mean to, this is a light hearted response to be equally amazed someone thinks everyone has heard of one small (?) place!)

patooties · 11/12/2025 16:40

I love Roseanne or Rosanna - not a fan of Romilly. I also like Rosemary with a nn of Romy.
