Thoughts on Elijah James?

I absolutely adore Elijah I have friends who have sons that are named Elijah and people love that name. James is my hubbys name so I picked that for the middle name. Thoughts on the two names together??

The two names are nice in themselves but the two J sounds together are a bit jarring.

Cooperboom32 · 27/11/2025 15:06

I think its lovely 🙂

CiderWithRosie1972 · 27/11/2025 15:13

Love it!

Jugendstiel · 27/11/2025 15:14

Gorgeous. Elegant, timeless but also cool. Great names.

clarrylove · 27/11/2025 15:35

Lovely names, but it does sound like Eli with a stutter on the James. But in reality it's not going to be spoken out loud very often. Could you add another middle name before James to help it flow better?

Blueleaf837 · 27/11/2025 16:00

I have an Elijah. I think it’s the most gorgeous name and have done since the first time I heard it. It really suits my gorgeous boy.
Elijah James sounds lovely together I think.

Moreteaandchocolate · 27/11/2025 16:35

They sound good together to me 😊

Seeingadistance · 27/11/2025 16:36

Lovely names and lovely together!

DuchessOfNarcissex · 27/11/2025 16:40

I have friends who have sons that are named Elijah How many of them?
James is a very common middle name and doesn't flow with the first name.

SleafordSods · 27/11/2025 16:55

I think it’s lovely. I really like both names avd even suggested Elijah for our DS but DH was adamant that he didn’t want any biblical names for them.

Firsttimebabymummy · 27/11/2025 20:01

Love it!

Lkie EJ as a nn too

Carlyove · 27/11/2025 20:44

Fabulous

Treylime · 27/11/2025 20:54

They are both nice individually but don't go together well.

BoleynMemories13 · 28/11/2025 06:12

It's up to you. I think I'd want to choose something different to the name my friends have chosen for their son, but it's each to their own. As long as you think they'll be ok with you using it too? (Some people can be really funny about 'name stealing', even though obviously nobody owns a name)

I've never been a fan of Elijah, personally, but it's not my baby.

Elijah James is fine.

Other options you don't want to be too matchy with your friends ..

Elio James
Elliott James

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 28/11/2025 08:51

Nice.

Quite a lot of Elis and Elijahs about but it seems to have tailed off recently

BatsInHibernation · 28/11/2025 09:21

It's an absolutely gorgeous name.
I wouldn't worry about the j-j sound. No-one is going to call him Elijah James on a day to day basis.
The only part that would put me off is having multiple friends with sons the same name But, it didn't used to bother people when they mainly picked from a small name pool (Christopher, Matthew etc) so if it doesn't bother you, great).

DuchessOfNarcissex · 28/11/2025 11:17

I've never been a fan of Elijah Me neither, and Eli is horrible.
Elliott James is far less babyish

would put me off ... multiple friends with sons the same name This.

I don't think the name is gorgeous.

MossAndLeaves · 28/11/2025 11:19

It makes it a bit of a tongue twister - I just tried saying it and it came out sounding more like Eliza James

Daisypod · 28/11/2025 11:29

One of my sons two middle names are Elijah James so I love them together

Calliopespa · 28/11/2025 12:24

Quite like it.

James is one of those middle names like Rose that makes everything sound lovely.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 28/11/2025 12:33

Mochudubh · 28/11/2025 12:54

I think James Elijah flows better. Something about the "jah-jae" in the middle of Elijah James sounds awkward.

ginasevern · 28/11/2025 13:28

Lovely OP. I like both names and I think they work together just fine. They're two of the nicest and most sensible names I've seen on MN for a while.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 28/11/2025 14:44

@Mochudubh , it flows better but the father is James, so they'd probably be James Middlename Helper and James Elijah Helper, and being known by your middle name is a PITA.
