We're got our very long list down to a shortlist of 4, but we're still really struggling! We like them all so would appreciate some outside perspective 😅 Already have a middle name picked so whichever we pick will be first name.

What is your surname? It's a lovely set of choices but more info

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 16/11/2025 21:29

But without any other info, I'd say Clara as top choice, Marnie at the bottom

PrincessOfPreschool · 16/11/2025 21:42

I like Clara and Marnie. Flo and Tilly are two a penny round here and some of them haven't left me with good memories. Never met a real life Clara but it's a very classy name (prob why I've never met one!). Marnie is a bit more hippy but I like it too.

Surname is Warwick. Not 100% on how it flows with Florence, but the others sound ok I think!

Clara! Most unique out of your short list. Still a lovely neme may I add.

I also like Carla.

Moreteaandchocolate · 16/11/2025 22:15
  1. Clara - Beautiful, classic and classy, simple and pretty - this would be on my shortlist if I had another girl
  2. Matilda - lovely but I’m not sold on Tilly for an adult. It sounds wonderful with your surname though - Matilda Warwick 🤩
  3. Florence - very nice but I’m not keen on Flo
  4. Marnie - I do like this but it feels like a diminutive for something. Not that that matters much!
HaughtyAndCold · 16/11/2025 22:16

Marnie is my least favourite.

Clara goes best with Warwick

eurotravel · 16/11/2025 22:17

Clara Warwick sounds strong and also unique

Twoshoesnewshoes · 16/11/2025 22:19

I know two women who are expecting and have Clara top of their lists!
I like Florence, shortened to Ren.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 16/11/2025 22:22

Your name choices are lovely but Florence is so popular,

DarkEyedSailor · 16/11/2025 22:23

Clara is nice.

Peternell · 16/11/2025 23:55

I love both Florence and Matilda/Tilly, but voted for Matilda as it sounds great with your surname, whereas Florence sounds awkward with it. Clara is ok, but again, Matilda is so much better with the surname.

HighburyHope · 17/11/2025 00:04

Clara is lovely. I also like Florence, but not so much with your surname. (Flora would be better with it).

Pryceosh1987 · 17/11/2025 00:39

Jennifer.

LivingTheDreamish · 17/11/2025 03:58

I prefer Clara as a name but think Matilda Warwick flows best.

Eenameenadeeka · 17/11/2025 04:19

Clara or Florence

BoleynMemories13 · 17/11/2025 04:26

Florence is my favourite (it's not at all popular around me, despite it's placing in the national charts). It really doesn't flow well with your surname though, which is an issue.

Clara is ok, but I prefer Lara.

Matilda is ok as a full name but I really dislike Tilly.

Marnie isn't my style at all, but it does flow nicely with your surname.

Everything considered, my vote would go to Clara.

firstofallimadelight · 17/11/2025 07:05

All beautiful, Clara is the nicest.

Pinkyhere · 17/11/2025 09:05

I voted Matilda.
Only one I don't like is Marnie

KarriTreeSullivan · 17/11/2025 10:23

I would choose Clara, as I have adored that name for a very long time, however it seems to be very popular on here at the moment, not sure how that will translate to popularity in the real world for those having baby girls right now, if mumsnet is anything to go by it's about to be very common!

Florence and Matilda, although lovely, were both overdone for me about 10-15 years ago, so a bit dull to me now.

Marnie Warwick sounds like a movie star! I love Marnie too, a very close second for me.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 17/11/2025 11:23

I'm not keen on any of them, but in order:
Matilda (flows best)
Marnie (nicer than Tilly)
Florence (nicest but doesn't go with the surname)
Clara - I just don't like it.

SpringingOn · 18/11/2025 03:09

I voted Florence as it is lovely but prefer Matilda with your surname. I think I am the only person who doesn't like the name Clara. I prefer Clare. Not keen on Marnie either but that is just because of someone I know with that name.

MirandaBlu · 18/11/2025 03:43

These are all nice. I see the potential sound-alike issue with Florence Warwick, but even so I don't think it's an impossible combo. I really like Marnie; if it feels too informal and you want a more structured name some people use Marnie as a short/"every day" diminutive for the more formal-sounding and maybe more traditional/established name Marina - although Marnie by itself is absolutely fine too.

bittertwisted · 18/11/2025 08:22

My dog is called Florence 😳 but I inherited her and her name, i think it’s a beautiful name
however Clara is my favourite

bittertwisted · 18/11/2025 08:25

HighburyHope · 17/11/2025 00:04

Dog called Florence
cat called flora 😂😂

I will never have a girl now though so I’m glad my pets have lovely names that I definitely would have liked for a human girl
