All ONS baby name data

Does anyone know where you can access all baby names given in any given year (eg in 2024)?

The ONS seems to publish the top 100 names cut it many different ways (age/geography etc) - but not the longer list of data.

I am sure I have seen this in the past - thank you.

It's a spreadsheet you download - one for boys and one for girls. The data is on different tabs within the spreadsheet.

I read this as babies conceived as a result of One Night Stands and was so confused why anyone would think to sort baby names that way!

@MidnightPatrol , go to https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/livebirths/datasets/babynamesenglandandwalesbabynamesstatisticsgirls

Locate '2024 edition of this dataset' and select 'xslx'.
Open the file and go to Table 6. It lists about 7650 names, many only registered 3 times.

It looks different to last year's layout. You could look up different areas then.
The national figures may be quite different to the ones for your area.
Last year's top name for my area wasn't in the top 100 names for girls.

Table 4 and table 7 both show regional data. Not sure if it's the same as the previous year though

@Dee51121 ,there used to be a map and you could enter a top 100 name, and it would show how many were registered in that area.

Dee51121 · 10/11/2025 18:31

@Emanwenym I've looked at the data for the last two/three years and never come across a map before, that would be cool, wish they still did it

Me too! I’m glad I’m not the only one
