Is Disney a silly name?

I think it is. I'd be mortified if I was named that.

Is Disney a good name?
Well it was a good name for Walt.

There isn't anything redeeming about the name Disney as a child's first name.

Just think of the diminutives:
Diz? Dizzy? Nee?
It doesn't sound nice at all OP.

If you're a Disney fan I'm sure there's no end of names you can choose from one of the films?

Well that woman from the soap powder ads called her child Bambi!

If named after Walt then I believe the Disney surname was angelicised and not actually the family name.
Edit :
It was originally d'Isigny a french name.
Means "from Isigny" a place in France.

Ridiculous name, but I don't think this falls under the reasons a name can be refused in the UK. I got this list from the deed poll office website:

Are impossible to pronounce

Include numbers, symbols, or punctuation marks (not including hyphens or apostrophes)

Are considered offensive, vulgar, or blasphemous by the deed poll service

Fraudulent (inferring the child has a rank, title, or inherited honor)

Ooh, interesting to read that list. DS actually had a digraph in his name (which I have googled and is apparently a symbol).

When we registered his name I want actually expecting us to be able to have it in his birth certificate but the registrar, said yep, no worries and quickly found it from a drop down).

Quicker then me, who usually takes at least 5 minutes to find it!

ShaneWalshgirlfriend · 11/11/2025 09:26

What would be blasphemous though? We use so many Biblical names and share so many with Islam and Judaism.

Jesus very common in parts of the world.

And what's blasphemous anyway? Bet I could call my child Helios with no problem.

Y-hweh maybe?

Great name in Scotland, depending on surname

Disney - have any class
Disney - give a Fcuk
Disney - have a clue.

😀

HibiscusCoffee · 11/11/2025 09:27

I'm sure there was a TV show where the kid was called Disney, I thought it was Cutting It but maybe I am confusing her with the character Darcey.

GuyForksAndKnives · 09/11/2025 12:49

The parents are the ridiculous ones.

Ah yes the child deserves everything she gets then.

Pumpkindoodles · 11/11/2025 09:32

fwiw I’ve known two disneys. Older men. Nothing to do with the Disney corporation.

Milbie · 11/11/2025 09:34

Yes it's a silly name. But that baby is absolutely 100% adorable.

This is what happens with names. They get attached to the most gorgeous humans, little babies, in all existence and we get tricked into loving them. 😂

I think they should name their next one Netflix.

PInkyStarfish · 11/11/2025 09:44

Anyone thinking of giving their children ‘cutesy’ names should look at Jonathan Ross daughters that are now adults and see that a cute child might grow up to be anything but cute and having a cute name is beyond parody.

TheGrimSmile · 11/11/2025 09:45

Yes

Followed by Baby Iplayer

Giggorata · 11/11/2025 10:48

It's a well established surname and surnames are quite often used for forenames, so not that outlandish, were it not for the huge brand name connotations.
It doesn’t sound that bad, either….Disney Jones.

What would be equivalent, for famous surnames?
Windsor Smith, Starmer Jones, Dyson McKay, Lennon Davis, Denby Taylor, I dunno.

IamIfeel · 11/11/2025 10:52

I'm going to take a guess, is the child your grandchild by any chance?

I mean, yeah I think it's a crap name. But there's so many "stupid" names these days that none of them will be considered weird or stupid by their peers. I know adults with unusual names and after you get over the initial "oh, that's a weird name", you don't even consider it again.

But you seem to be really invested in the name of a child that isn't yours, which I think it more odd.

I had to google Mormon family with stupid names to remind myself who had named their baby Disney. First hit….

Truly? Trendy? Journey? Blimey! Makes Disney for the baby look quite reasonable.
(Blimey is not a name, btw.)

That made me laugh. Someone should start a Baby Names thread asking for views on ‘Blimey’. Or the longer, even more ‘special’ variation, ’Gorblimey’.

Boys’ names I think, though a little girl called Blimey Jones, or whatever, could possibly work.

JudgeBread · 11/11/2025 12:39

Are they calling the next one Pixar? Or DreamWorks, create that rivalry from birth.

Gettingbysomehow · 11/11/2025 12:40

Do you really need to ask?

Gorblimey sounds very Peaky Blinders. It would make a great name for a certain type of little horror! Or it could be super posh - Hereward Gorblimey Featheringstone-Haugh.

BipolarBabe34 · 11/11/2025 12:42

I knew a Disney. Lovely name but just not something I personally would pick

LuigiGhostDog · 09/11/2025 09:34

Yes it’s ridiculous. I really hope if a parent wanted to name their child that, the registry office wouldn’t allow it.

First heard a kid being called it in a shop in about 1997.
Recently went to a baby group and a baby was introduced as Disney.

Now this?

I fear Disney is becoming more popular as a name.

Needmorelego · 11/11/2025 13:01

The Mormon Instagram family - are those really the children's names or are they fake online names?
There's several of these Instagram families that don't actually use their children's real names.

Arlanymor · 11/11/2025 13:04

I know of an adult Disney and I've once met a baby Disney.

GuyForksAndKnives · 11/11/2025 14:38

I'd hate my parents if they called me that.
