Ada or Adaline / Adeline?

She will go by Ada regardless - do we think giving a fuller name would be best, or as she would go by Ada anyways just to call her Ada?

I like Adeline. Will make her different to the other Adas in her year.

It depends how you want it to be pronounced

Ada-line
Adda-line

I like Adeline.

If you definitely want her to go by Ada then I’d choose Ada. The Adeline I know goes by Addy now she’s in secondary school and you don’t have much control over that. Both are lovely though, imo.

This is something else I’m not sure on.

Adda-line is the more traditional way of saying the name I believe.
But as I’m wanting it as a fuller name for Ada, I keep thinking about Adaline pronounced Ada-line.

But I’m worried it will get mispronounced and misspelt a lot if I do it that way.

Just go with Ada. That’s the name you actually love.

Use Ada, it's sweet..
I also love Adele.

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 09/11/2025 07:41

I know an Ada whose full name is Adelina.

No5ChalksRoad · 09/11/2025 07:57

Adeline is too granny inho.

Ava would be better than Ada.

Caspianberg · 09/11/2025 07:57

I would pronounce Ada like (adder), and Ayda like (ay-da). Adaline and Adeline like (adder-line).
Ada pronounced like the Start of the name Adam.

GoodVibesHere · 09/11/2025 08:10

Do you like the name Caleada? (pronounced Callie-Ada).

The name means warm/loving. You could use Ada as her name, but then she has Caleada for her full name.

DrLucyVanPelt · 09/11/2025 08:19

I like both names.

The Adeline I know is pronounced Adder-line, so agree it may be said differently to how you want it to be. I also don't think Ada is a natural shortening as the sounds are different.

Ada on its own is lovely, I'd go with that!
