Matthew Mark...

So, in your head do you automatically follow it with 'Luke and John'?! I think I have settled on Matthew for db, and Mark is my dad's middle name (his first name is Kevin so not really an option ). It has only really occured to me this morning that it sounds like I am trying to list the apostles The Mark is not necessarily as certain as Matthew is, but my dad is great and I think he would be chuffed to get a little mention! Some other middle names I have thought about are Simon, Samuel (but I think Matthew Samuel is a bit of a mouthful), Benjamin, James....... Surname is one syllable starting with B

No I did not immediately think of Luke and John, despite going to catholic schools!

Matthew is a lovely name.

fryalot · 06/06/2008 11:37

firstly, it's your child and you must call him whatever you want to.

But... (and you did ask) My brain automatically follows with Luke and John.

For me, personally, these names don't go. Well, they do, but they go so well that they don't go (iykwim)

AitchTwoCiao · 06/06/2008 11:38

i did think Luke and John but tbh how often is someone going to introduce him as matthew mark? it's always going to be either first name or first, middle and surname, so i don't think it's important. certainly not as important as delighting your dad.

artichokes · 06/06/2008 11:38

I would guess that you were vaery religious with a name like that. And I would probably make some weak joke about Luke and John.

They are both nice names though.

fryalot · 06/06/2008 11:38

also, don't forget, he will rarely use his middle name, he will just be Matthew, Matt, Mattie... whatever. It's only on his birth and his wedding day that he will ever use them together.

EffiePerine · 06/06/2008 11:38

Yes (Acts and Romans follow on)

but only if you have a Sunday School background

I like Matthew James

savoycabbage · 06/06/2008 11:38

I did but it doesn't matter.

belgo · 06/06/2008 11:39

You can have two middle names you know: Matthew Benjamin Mark for example.

TigerFeet · 06/06/2008 11:40

Sorry as soon as I read the thread title I thought "Luke and John"

It is a nice name though

How about three names - Matthew Benjamin Mark works well imo

VictorianSqualor · 06/06/2008 11:41

Yep, the first thought when I read the title was 'luke and john' sorry.

BlueDragonfly · 06/06/2008 11:41

i thought luke and john also BUT how often do you just say your childs first and middle names?

Buda · 06/06/2008 11:44

Matthew is a lovely name!

I have a Matthew Frederick - Frederick is after DH's late Dad. DH's second name is Mark funnily enough. Adn I did think of using it as a second name but liked how Matthew Frederick sounded more. And I was very fond of DH's Dad.

Afraid i thought Luke and John too

We have decided on Matthew for our LO if its a boy too. Matthew is my DH's middle name.

We are thinking Matthew George.

Weegiemum · 06/06/2008 15:47

I think

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
Acts and Romans follow on ....

But both are nice, and I wouldn't let that put you off

Esp like Matthew. It was our boys name for Dd1 and Dd2, but weirdly, in between, not for ds (Aidan).

Ours were going to be Matthew Brendan.
Any of your other ideas are nice .. I like Matthew Simon myself!

Isn't it funny that Mark is a biblical name? It just makes me think of 80s school days.

Weegiemum · 06/06/2008 15:53

In fact, I know a tune for it .....

I wouldn't worry. We're thinking of Samuel Peter Paul, all with good family reasons and because I love it, and the alliteration. Everyone we have mentioned it too has said "ooo, very biblical" I hadn't even thought of that. Just good solid names to me. Love the alliteration of Matthew Mark too. My nephew is Matthew Michael.

ChicaLovesBranstonPickle · 14/06/2008 12:20

I did think Luke and John, but as others have said you rarely call a child by both names. I'd go for it, as it's your dad's middle name.

Lovely names btw.

Elkat · 15/06/2008 00:23

Sorry, I thought that too. Perhaps you could add another middle name before the Mark?

Matthew George Mark for example????

yelnats · 15/06/2008 00:26

I did think Luke and John before I opened your post. Nice names though.

Tortington · 15/06/2008 00:27

thats a no vote from me - dont do it
