Effy or Effie spelling

Hi all, first of all I’m not seeking opinions on the name, I know this is a forum and people are free to give their opinions so if you do give your opinion please know it will have no impact on our decision to use the name. I’ve recently seen my older DDs name take a real battering on here so I’m really reluctant to actually post this but I’m going for it anyway.

We are expecting baby girl 2. We have decided on Effy/Effie as our name choice. I know it’s not everyone’s taste, I also don’t care!

We are split though and can’t decide whether Effy or Effie is the better spelling. Thoughts?

Effie seems better to me. It sounds like a beautiful Victorian nickname for Ephegenia or something. 😍

VAmum · 29/10/2025 03:46

Effie feels more classic and I like it. Although Effy seems to be a bit more modern, I personally don't prefer short names ending in 'y' 😊

wandawaves · 29/10/2025 03:49

I've never seen it spelled as Effy...

Trallers · 29/10/2025 04:18

It's a lovely name, but Effy looks too much like iffy. So Effie gets my vote.

Edinburghdaze · 29/10/2025 04:21

I knew an Effie that was short for Euphemia. I would spell it that way although I would also give the long name.

SammyScrounge · 29/10/2025 04:31

I had a very elderly.great aunt named.Euphemia.but who was always called Effie for short. I think it's a very pretty name. Effy is.too close to a certain swear word.

Effie not keen on the spelling Eddy. Beautiful name though 💖

Isn’t Effy the robot Hoover? If so go Effie

Hollietree · 29/10/2025 12:42

When I ready Effy it made me think of my robot hoover Eufy. So my vote would be Effie.

Same here.

I think it is a lovely name, my DD went to nursery with a little girl with that name and has now named her doll Effie. I do associate it with the TV series Skins and presumed maybe the nursery Mum did the same? I'd go with 'ie'.

Eightdayz · 29/10/2025 13:03

Its a popular Greek name. Short for Ephemia. They spell it effie.

fairycupcakes · 29/10/2025 13:09

Effie! Beautiful name.

Firebird83 · 30/10/2025 11:27

DD has a friend at nursery called Effie. I’d spell it that way.

LolaBumble · 30/10/2025 20:55

Effie, love the name 🫶🫶 would use it myself if it was t my bosses name

OSTMusTisNT · 30/10/2025 21:13
