This is my top contender and has confirmed after recently meeting the loveliest little Francis I am only sceptical of others opinions thinking it is feminine and slightly wet.
Will it be shortened to Fran or Frank?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
tinytemper66 · 25/10/2025 16:19

No it is a strong name. Many an Irish relative had the name back in the day. I would have named another son this but alas no more children…

I really like it.

5dollah · 25/10/2025 16:37

I love the name Francis.

LeftFooter · 25/10/2025 16:39

So cute. I love it.

Jan039 · 25/10/2025 16:44

I grew up with a Frances so to me it is a girls name. As a result I don't like it for a boy and do find it limp.

Moreteaandchocolate · 25/10/2025 16:50

Sorry it’s a girls name to me (I know the spelling is different but I know multiple women called Frances and no men called Francis). Fran is definitely female to me. Frank is fine.

SeaAndStars · 25/10/2025 16:52

My dad was Francis and to me it is a very manly name. Most people called him Frank but my mum and uncle called him Frankie which was such an endearing thing.

fluffyprawn · 25/10/2025 16:53

Love it!!

Arlanymor · 25/10/2025 16:56

Makes me think of Francis Ford Coppola. Nothing remotely wet about his movies! I would go for it and Frankie is very cute as a nickname.

GiantYorkshirePud · 25/10/2025 17:01

I love it. Reminds me of Francis from Malcolm in the middle. Would shorten it to Frankie.

allmycats · 25/10/2025 17:01

Lovely name and NOT girly at all. Go for it.

Pranksters · 25/10/2025 17:44

I don’t like it at all, never have. I think it’s wet.

Partridgewell · 25/10/2025 17:47

I love it. It's my son's middle name and would have been his first name but I am Southern and now live in (what I consider to be) the North, so people pronounce it differently here to the way I say it, which would have annoyed me 🤣

I think he would have been Frankie. I still absolutely love it, plus it was his Great Grandad's name and he was a wonderful man.

AllPlayedOut · 25/10/2025 17:48

Francis is an awful name. It is wet and unattractive. It’s a family name for me but not one that we’ll be continuing and my family member hates it and goes by a completely different name. The nickname Frank is even worse and I’d expect that at least a few people will call him that.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 25/10/2025 17:53

Francis was quite a popular name amongst Catholic scousers. I can't help but think of it as a bit of a scally name, and all its various, because of that.

Northerners say Francis, like it's spelled. Southerners stick an extra R in there. Frarncis.

Beautiful name ❤️

SereneLilac · 25/10/2025 18:03

My son's middle name. My father and brothers all had it as a middle name, it's common in catholic families all over Europe after St Francis. Ex was half Italian, so was Francis here and Francesco in Italy. He didn't like it though. I think it's lovely, but not shortened. Fran is even worse than Frank.

Skybluepinky · 25/10/2025 18:05

The fact you are asking means you know most will think that is not a good choice.

autienotnaughty · 25/10/2025 20:35

Love it for a girl not for a boy.

Viviennemary · 25/10/2025 20:38

There's a few older men called Francis but don't know anybody under 60 with that name.

PurBal · 25/10/2025 20:44

I know a Francis known as Fran and honestly he’s the burliest bloke you’d ever meet. I also know a girl Fran and I never really considered it one way or the other. Like Charlie.

PurBal · 25/10/2025 20:44

And I know a 4 yo Frank too

Firebird83 · 25/10/2025 22:05

DS has a Francis in his class. I like it!

Gizzagizza · 25/10/2025 22:24

I don’t like it.

nellietheellie75 · 25/10/2025 22:34

I really dislike this name.
