Thank you for replying to my previous post.🙌 Because I couldn't fit all the names in the poll, I am posting a revised list of names (which we have narrowed down a little)...

Just wanted to ask on here which of these names you find the prettiest. We have Nordic/Welsh heritage and would like to honor it in a middle name. We love meanings, so I have put the different meanings in brackets.

Here is our short list:

Enid (Welsh meaning ”soul” and ”life)
Elise (used in Denmark/Sweden/Norway, meaning ”God’s promise”)
Ida (Nordic, means "industrious," "hardworking," or "prosperous")
Freja (Norse Godess of love and beauty)
Lucia (Nordic, means ”bearer o flight”, In Sweden, Lucia is a major cultural celebration on December 13th)
Ylva (Nordic, means ”she-wolf”)

🤗

What is the first name?

What is the first name?

It will most likely be either Audrey, Clara or Maeva 😍

Audrey Lucia is nice.

Or

Maeva Elise.

Clara Elise.

Clara Lucia.

Most of the middle names don't go too well with most the the first names IMO. Sorry @NorseMum Maybe you disagree. (It's JMO.) Smile

PanderBare · 23/10/2025 12:12

I don't like the first names. Most of the middle names are much bicer.
Call her Ylva with a middle name not ending in -a.
Of the first names you've listed, Audrey is the one I dislike the least.

Edited

We're still undecided 😅May well be that we use one of our middle names as the first name... I love Ylva, but wonder if it's just too out there for the UK? 😝

Love Freja.

How is Ylva pronounced, because I'm pronouncing it Ulva rhymes with vulva in my head which isn't great? Though being a middle name chances are after the first few weeks of her life no one will ever hear at again and it'll only be used on some official documents, so that might not matter.

PanderBare · 23/10/2025 12:26

@TheJessops , more like somewhere in between EEL-vah and ILL-vah.

MumChp · 23/10/2025 12:33

Ida, Freja, Lucia.

Shamesame · 23/10/2025 13:47

I love Ida but I don’t think it goes with your first names.

momtoboys · 23/10/2025 14:00

I love Maeve. But, as my mumsnet name makes clear, I was never lucky to have a girl.

user1492757084 · 23/10/2025 14:04

I like Enid, Elise, Ida, Freja and Lucia.

Names that sound nice to my ear..

Audrey Lucia
Audrey Elise
Clara Lucia
Clara Elise
Clara Enid
Maeva Enid
Maeva Elise
Ida Lucia
Lucia Clare
Freja Enid

Comeonbabylightmyfire · 23/10/2025 14:07

Sticking with Enid. It goes perfectly with all of the first names as well.
I vote for Audrey Enid!

luckylavender · 23/10/2025 14:11

I don’t know how to pronounce Ylva. I’m Welsh - is it E-nid or Eenid. I hear both

PanderBare · 23/10/2025 14:21

@luckylavender , it's neither.
If you mean how do Welsh-speakers say the Welsh name Enid, it's ENN-id.
(same vowel sounds as in Elin).

luckylavender · 23/10/2025 14:31

@PanderBare- depends on where in Wales you live.

Normalitea · 23/10/2025 20:34

I don't want to throw other names at you, but for a name that exists in both places, have you considered Eira?

I think it's a Welsh name, but also separate to that it's a modern version of the Norse goddess Eir, goddess of healing, which is getting more popular in Sweden (we considered it for our baby as I'm Swedish, but he's revealed himself to be a boy).

Pieceofpurplesky · 23/10/2025 20:53

Enid or Freja as a first name. I prefer your first name choices.
Enid Ylva is fabulous

sakura06 · 23/10/2025 21:01

Not on your list, but as @PanderBarementioned it, Elin is lovely and works for both cultures!

Endofthetunnel25 · 23/10/2025 21:02

I also read Ylva quickly as vulva 😆

im not keen on middle names ending with “a”. I’d go for Elise, it’s really pretty.

Timeforabitofpeace · 23/10/2025 21:10

I dislike Audrey.

roshi42 · 23/10/2025 21:35

Love Ylva! My very beautiful fit calm and bendy yoga teacher is named Ylva and she’s lovely. Also didn’t know it meant she-wolf, that is insanely cool!!

PanderBare · 24/10/2025 10:26

luckylavender · 23/10/2025 14:31

@PanderBare- depends on where in Wales you live.

@luckylavender , I said Welsh-speakers. If someone introduced herself as 'eenid', they might say it that way, but Welsh is phonetic, so the Welsh pronunciation is 'ennid'.

If it was eenid it would be written Înyd.

luckylavender · 24/10/2025 10:40

Fair enough. And your phonetic Ennid is actually what I meant first for the first option.

LivingTheDreamish · 25/10/2025 23:43

Clara Enid
Maeva Elise
Audrey Freya
