Boy name help!

ARodeoQueen · 22/10/2025 20:44

I have previously posted and had loads of amazing help with girls names. I now need help with boys names please! 34 weeks and don't know the sex although I have got a feeling baby is a boy!
We are both teachers and would prefer a name of a child we haven't taught as I just picture a face. We have a son called Sidney (named after his Great- Grandpa). We like these names (but they aren't the one) Arthur, Oscar, Walter, Jesse.

My DH loves the name Orlando (Orly). I like the name but really not sure if we can really have a Sidney and Orlando!!

Middle name likely to be Gene.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. We spent 2 hours last night going through names and no luck! Thank you!.

Ernest is nice - Ernie for short.

ResusciAnnie · 22/10/2025 20:47

I like Orlando but can’t get past Orly - it really irks me, as does Lando.

Austin Gene
Francis Gene
Lawrence Gene

Walter goes really well with Sidney, is it really a no?! Sid and Walt!

For me, Joel is the perfect name, but Joel Gene is probably a no.

Mandarinaduck · 22/10/2025 20:50

Leonard

I like Orlando though.

Hazelmaybe · 22/10/2025 21:01

I love Jesse with Sydney.

How about Raymond (Ray) or Stanley (Stan)?

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 23/10/2025 08:11

Can't see anything wrong with Sidney and Orlando, and Orlando Gene is rather fantastic

But if not - Arnold nn Arnie?

I also like the Ernest suggestion

rainbowstardrops · 23/10/2025 08:12

Are you really against having Gene as a first name? It’s quite hard to find a name that goes before it. Having said that, you don’t often say both names together.
How about Isaac? I’m not really sure about Orlando, especially as you have a Sydney.

I love Gene as a first name!

Cary? (as in Cary Grant) just a random thought as Gene made me think of Gene Kelly.
Alec?

I suppose Sidney and Orlando are both cities, although Sidney is spelt differently to the Australia city, and they are cool names.

HugoYorway · 23/10/2025 15:56

William, Billy for short.
Orlando is too linked with Virginia Woolf for me.

Thank you for all of your help and suggestions so far. I am taking it all in! I do actually like Gene as a first name too.

Billy Gene (is not my lover, she’s just a girl that claims that I am the one but the child is not my son)
Sorry, couldn’t resist! 😁
