Emily Rose is my favourite but all lovely names. Emily Elizabeth doesn’t flow as well in my opinion

Calliopespa · 08/10/2025 22:59

Emily and Elizabeth are both nice names but too similar to use together: it sounds like an ostrich gulping down an apple.

Jamclag · 08/10/2025 23:05

I think I'd go for two middle names:
Emily Elizabeth Rose or
Emily Rose Catherine

Yes, or Emily Catherine Rose?

All great choices.
Do any have a special family tie?

Strongstuff · 09/10/2025 03:13

You have a tough choice! They are all lovely and work well. And contrary to others, I have never heard of an Emily Rose! But if you love it, I don't think it should sway you. Does your baby's father have a preference?

Emily Rose

Eenameenadeeka · 09/10/2025 08:57

Catherine

I will bow to your greater zoological knowledge on that, but I think it sounds lovely and is easy to say.

Road Runner GIF

In truth it's more imagination than biological knowledge. Actually I think it might be a mental image that has its origins in those Road Runner cartoons ... Do you remember them?

Emily Rose sounds best I think, and I love the name Rose even though it is quite popular these days

user2848502016 · 09/10/2025 15:39

Ps out of all the name combinations I would actually go Catherine Rose

Alexandrine · 09/10/2025 21:24

Emily Elizabeth is beautiful - I like the 3 syllable then 4 syllable flow and the almost alliteration. However Emily Catherine is also lovely. I’d probably keep repeating them both with your surname to try to see which you think looks/sounds the nicer of the two with it (but both are wonderful, classic combinations that you can’t really go wrong with).

Sorry but I agree that Emily Rose is very dull now - there must be hundreds of girls with that combination in schools up and down the country. Personally I’d only use Rose/Grace/May as a middle name at the moment if it was honouring a beloved family member - as they’ve become the standard Jane/Louise/Marie middle name of the present day.

I doubt Emily rose is common for primary aged children now, It strikes me as a combo that peaked in the 90s/00s, I remember about 21 years ago it seemed like every baby was an Emily rose so I imagine most are in their late teens to early 20s now. An Emily rose would probably stand out in a primary school today compared to other names

Alexandrine · 11/10/2025 01:18

Oh it definitely peaked about 25 years ago. But Emily was still given to about 1200 girls last year in E and W, plus Emily-Rose is the most popular of the hyphenated names with Emily - which is a decent indication that there are likely still quite a few younger Emily Rose’s (no hyphen) about.

I agree though that with the much wider spread of names now in general, OP’s DD would be unlucky to meet another one at most smaller schools - or even just another Emily for that matter. So definitely not worth being put off a lovely classic such as Emily just because of so called popularity.

But I don’t know about it really “standing out” as such - Emily has a similar ending to popular Lily, Tilly and Milly and of course other popular names with similar sounds to Emily like Emma and Ellie. Elizabeth and especially Catherine are much more distinctive now, which is why they would be my picks (even in the middle name spot).

Classicgirly · 11/10/2025 01:24

I have an Emily Jane and an Elizabeth Hannah.

I prefer Catherine out of the three you’ve chosen OP as it flows much better. I would choose Catherine as a first name also, shortened to Kitty.

DramaAlpaca · 11/10/2025 01:43

All good, but I'd choose Emily Catherine.

Hollyhobbi · 11/10/2025 01:46

Emily Rose. The others are too long. My youngest daughter has a first name with three syllables but only one in her second name. My oldest daughter has two syllables in her first and two in her last name. They just go well together.

Kindaconcerned · 11/10/2025 17:48

The Exorcism of Emily Rose puts me off the name. (Albeit a pretty old film now!)

Either of the other two, very lovely

BatsInSummer · 11/10/2025 20:10

Emily Catherine the clear winner by a mile

CherryPinkAppleBlossomWhite · 11/10/2025 20:46

Emily Catherine is lovely 🥰

MummaR94 · 16/10/2025 00:24

Emily Rose is very common, how about something a little different such as Emily Primrose?

Emily Kate or Emily Victoria are also nice traditional options!

im personally emily louise and there were so many when i was growing up! So the more traditional the better in my book!
