Although I like more unusual names, having one myself I have gone for more classic names for my daughters and this time have short listed Alice or Lucy (I like many others but DH not very imaginative!. But we both quite like Willow, I think it's pretty but the couple of people I mentioned it to thought it was too 'new agey'. I would like some honest opinions so don't worry about hurting my feelings, I can take it

It's all about Buffy for me.
Ooh, or that film with Warwick wotsit in it, I loved that film when I was younger.

PrimulaVeris · 03/06/2008 19:05

Very new agey!

A bit chicklit heroiney too ... sorry but you did ask! Alice and Lucy lovely ...

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 03/06/2008 19:06

I think your instinct is good. If your daughters have classic names then Alice (my favourite - it was my grandmother's name but my husband vetoed it for our daughter) or Lucy would be good choices. Can't explain why, but although I like flower names - Violet, Primrose, Fleur and many others - I don't like Willow. I think it probably does have too many hippy, new agey connotations. And wasn't it also a film in the Hobbit/LOTR vein?

But, as always, pick names that you like and don't be deterred by what those of us avoiding the Hoovering by posting on MN think.

I had a gorgeous cat called Willow. I think it's a lovely name, very pretty, but I'd be wary of it in case your daughter ends up not suiting it. I picture a woman called Willow to be tall and slim and gorgeous. When we thought we might be having a girl, DH liked the name Grace, but it was unlikely that a child of mine was going to be graceful!!

Hulababy · 03/06/2008 19:22

i is quite a nice name; I think I like it It is the name of Richard Hammond's youngest daughter.

quint · 03/06/2008 19:22

Definitely Buffy. But then she's pretty cool there so that's OK.

PestoMonster · 03/06/2008 19:41

I think Willow is an absolutely gorgeous name.

Heated · 03/06/2008 19:44

I used to think Willow a pretty name but I now know a woman from east London with a nasal voice who has named her dd Willow; it's like nails down a blackboard every time I hear her use it...

So if your not an adenoidal east Londoner, use it although Alice & Lucy are more classically appealing imo.

ash6605 · 03/06/2008 19:45

It's lovely

hullygully · 03/06/2008 19:46

No one ever wants Elm or Horse Chestnut. It's other-treeist.

dinny · 03/06/2008 19:47
