Although I like more unusual names, having one myself I have gone for more classic names for my daughters and this time have short listed Alice or Lucy (I like many others but DH not very imaginative!. But we both quite like Willow, I think it's pretty but the couple of people I mentioned it to thought it was too 'new agey'. I would like some honest opinions so don't worry about hurting my feelings, I can take it

It's my daughter's name, so obviously I love it.

megandtyler · 04/06/2008 00:48

it's a lovely name you could always use it as a second name.my dd's second name is summer as it was a bit too"ramsey street" for a first!

lotspot · 04/06/2008 12:27

i like it - not so keen on lucy myself, feels too little girly (no offence) just couldnever imagine it grownig with a person

spugs · 04/06/2008 12:49

love lucy, was my number 1 choice for dd3 but dh wanted something else and couldnt stand lucy

hf128219 · 04/06/2008 13:11

Roger Daltrey has a daughter called Willow.

OrmIrian · 04/06/2008 13:12

I like Willow. Really lovely. But I am a closet hippy.

Thankyouandgoodnight · 04/06/2008 13:47

I love it but we have one

Someone's intial comment on it was 'strength with a willingness to bend', which I thought was lovely.

I think it's a name that would suit whoever the person turns out to be.

It's a gorgeous soft but strong name IMO.

OrmIrian · 04/06/2008 13:50

And it makes good baskets too

ProfYaffle · 04/06/2008 13:50

Noooo - don't use it! dd1 is Willow and I can't have it getting too common!

ProfYaffle · 04/06/2008 13:51

Richard Hammond and (I think) Will Smith have daughters called Willow too.

MamaG · 04/06/2008 13:51

I much prefer alice

Thankyouandgoodnight · 04/06/2008 13:57

Ah - Profyaffle and Mymblemummy - do you have any more daughters?? We are struggling with a girls name for DC2 (if it's a girl)....!

rolledhedgehog · 04/06/2008 14:00

It reminds me of the cat on Blue Peter but just showing my age I suspect.

It is a bit fragile sounding for my taste.

ProfYaffle · 04/06/2008 15:42

Dd2 is Xanthe.

I fear I have now outed myself to anyone who may know me in rl (good job I don't post anything contentious)

lollipopmother · 04/06/2008 16:58

I think that Willow is quite a hippy name, however I really like it.

What I would do is give her a normal middle name and if she really doesn't like the name Willow she could revert to her middle name.

Thankyouandgoodnight · 04/06/2008 22:26

Xanthe is gorgeous!
We are currently thinking Trinity.....not everyone's cup of tea but then again, nothing is everyone's cup of tea is it??

Kitsilano · 04/06/2008 22:32

Love the name Willow

barbamama · 04/06/2008 22:33

there is a Willow at ds's nursery - I really like it.

nellyonthetelly · 04/06/2008 22:44

Like it too- But it does conjure up an image of a Gwyneth Paltrow like women... tall, thin and willowy... which depending on your genes maybe a good fit. For me as a voluptuous 5 footer, it would be plain wrong! Hope you don't think I'm being overly negative, as I say it is very pretty (smile)

cheesesarnie · 04/06/2008 22:45

if ds2 was a girl his middle name was going to be willow.

mymblemummy · 05/06/2008 00:08

No more daughters I'm afraid. If my little boy had been a girl he would have been Ottillie.

I think Xanthe is lovely too. Trinity has a gorgeous sound, but probably too many religious associations for me. But how boring it would be if we all chose the same names.

Willow is getting more popular, I think. We've run into two others in real life, both younger than her (and it makes her very cross because she likes it being unusual).

Dragonbutter · 05/06/2008 00:12

Willow is beautiful.
But i'm a bit new-agey.

I admit before I say this that I am a meanie, but Willow to me conjures up a child I once met who was possibly the most unpleasant child I have eever come across. She speaks very highly of me though

Comerscroft · 05/06/2008 18:32

A little girl I looked after in hospital some years ago, was called Willow.

Her three sisters were called Saffron, Rowan and Jasmine..........and yes, the Mum wore long flowing hippy-style dresses.
