I have an Evie Rose 🌹

trainboundfornowhere · 20/09/2025 23:13

Hazel Amaryllis
Bryony Myrtle
Ruth Zinnia
Rachel Tansy
Zelda Betony
Morwenna Sorrel
Hannah Diantha

Diantha means Heavenly Flower rather than being a particular flower.

Betony is a minty herb but I love it

Sorrel is also a herb

Nancy Rose! 🌹

Viola Rose?

NormaSars · 28/09/2025 10:04

I don't like the two flower/plant combinations like Viola Rose, Ivy Rose, Poppy Rose, Willow Rose etc. They're too flowery.

Viola Rose?

Yes Viola is a really good thought. It's more unusual than Violet at the moment, and has Shakespearean pedigree.

I'd probably not put the Rose with it as I think flower name plus flower gets all a bit ... floral.

I like Martha Violet. What about Nancy Violet?

Some of these sound just like flowers/plants but not names, such as Amaryllis. That doesn't work as a name for me.

I love all your suggestions, Op. They are very traditional, old names so there is that but I think they are lovely, and I love this return to tradition (older names with some history behind them). Having said that, I am not about to suggest Hyacinth Petunia. :D

Nancy Rose is lovely!

All these comments and not one mention of Daphne! A beautiful name and beautiful flower, ready for a comeback!

Maybe because Daphne is poisonous so that puts people off?

Nancy Rose is lovely! I’ve worked with children for over 30 years and I don’t think I’ve ever come across a Nancy before.

I'm currently listening to Pigeon Post (one of the Swallows and Amazons books) and Nancy Blackett is a fantastic character (admittedly it is her nickname). I think Nancy Rose goes beautifully, although I know quite a lot of people with it as a middle name. Probably doesn't matter - most people my age had Jane or Louise as a middle name!
