Albert (nn Albie) or Jake for my baby boy?

I'm really struggling to choose between these two names for my baby boy. I seem to change my mind every few days and it's driving me nuts 🤦🏻‍♀️.

I love the classic, vintage feel of Albert and Albie is a cute nn for when little. However, I'm struggling with seeing how the name will fit when he's a grown man. Albie seems juvenile and I'm not keen on Bert/Bertie. Al is ok, or he could just go by Albert.

The strong, simplicity of Jake is appealing to me and I think it's a name that easily suits a little boy or a man, without having the need for a nickname (which I do prefer). However, I don't know whether it's a bit outdated now and also if it's a bit boring? Would he end up having a bit of a 'dad name' since the popularity of the name Jake spiked in the 90s and those born then will be the generation having babies now?

My other two children are named Owen and Eliza, so I would like the name to fit best with theirs. They have no nicknames and I do like this.

Albert Sylvester Edwards
Or
Jake Oliver Edwards

Jake is my favourite - I love it and it feels timeless to me rather than a dad name. I think it goes really well with your other children’s names and I also like names that don’t generally go by nn’s.

I agree with your point about Albert being quite formal / “stuffy” as a full name and Albie is quite juvenile as a shortening for an adult.

They’re both nice names but I would steer clear of Albie for a nn.

Thank you, I do also think that Owen, Eliza and Jake go well together 😊. I just hope that Jake doesn't also sound too casual/nicknamey next to their names, though Eliza is derived from Elizabeth!

Every 3rd boy is named Albie at the moment, and if they're not Albie they're Alfie or Archie.

Why not put Jacob on the birth certificate so when they're older they have the choice of being a Jake or not?

I'd go Jake as my dog's called Albie so that would be confusing!

Could he be Jacob NN Jake? It’s a bit more flexible

@QwestSproutUnfortunatelt the MIL would very likely disapprove of Jacob and it wouldn't be worth the agro (there's someone in her family called it who she likely wouldn't want her grandson associated with).

The only real life Albert I know is in his 70's and everyone calls him Albie 😂

When she’s a parent, she gets to pick names, surely.

I like Jacob, but Jake as a stand-alone name is a bit thuggish.
