As in the title . Would you use Wren for a girl or boy ?

When I hear ‘Wren’ I instantly think ‘Jenny Wren’, so it seems feminine to me.

I agree - and think the same. Though the very first time I heard it, I thought the child was called Ren ( as in Ren and Stimpy).

I actually prefer it on a boy :)

Pootle40 · 17/09/2025 20:01

Only one I know is a bird!

winnieanddaisy · 17/09/2025 20:03

I would always think of it as a girls name because of the saying Jenny Wren .

Sex. You mean sex. And it’s overwhelmingly used for girls.

No she means gender. Gender is a social construct, as are names and the meanings we attract to them. The OP is asking if the name is gender neutral.

We've got 4 children named Wren at the school I work in. All are girls.

I only know of one Wren and he is a boy
I would have thought it was a girl’s name
