Hey, me and my lovely partner (male gay couple) are adopting baby twin girls, they’re due to be born at the end of December.
Below is a list of names we’re loving:

  • Eva and Iris
  • Sophia and Hazel
  • Isabella and Thea
  • Margot and Alexis

Any opinions welcome :)
I’ve asked a couple thread on here recently, and here is the ‘short list’ we’ve acquired

I love Eva and Thea but the popularity of Evie and Evelyn just puts me off. Every other child is an Evie and the Eva I know gets called Evie. It’s just so overused and dull.

Cant stand Margot, I don’t get personally why it’s so popular and Alexis feels somehow a bit pretentious and I’m not sure why. Sophia and Isabella are ok but again very popular if that bothers you. I don’t like Hazel at all, it’s frumpy.

Apart from Alexis, Thea and Hazel they’re all very common (overused) girls names. Doesn’t mean they’re not nice.

I don't like the pairings.

I'd pair them:
Eva/Margot/Thea - any 2. I don't like any of them
Sophia and Isabella
Hazel and Alexis/Iris

Eva - Evie names too popular
Thea -Theo too popular
Sophia and Isabella - both overused but the names are equally pretty. The combination is a bit too long
Margot - too current/popular,
Alexis - a bit too unisex. I like it.
Hazel - ok, don't love it
Iris - ok. nice flower

CoffeeBeansGalore · 03/09/2025 15:22

Sophia & Isabella are nice.
Thea I would go for Dorothea or Theadora instead. Theadora & Isabella go nicely.
Not keen on your other names.

Your names are nice and not at all offensive.
I find some of them too popular.
My favourite is Sophia and Hazel.

Others, inspired by your list..

Sophia and Alexandra
Margaret and Dorothea
Leonore and Gabrielle
Iris and Hazel
Isotta and Sophia
Alice and Isobel

Eva and Iris are gorgeous, both individually and as a pair. I love Hazel too.

These 3 are by far my favourites on your list.

Norastroud · 03/09/2025 21:25

Congratulations, how exciting!
youve chosen gorgeous name options, my favourite are:
Eva & Iris
Sophia & Hazel

or I would pair Margot & Thea

goodluck picking!

What lovely names!

Eva and Iris is a beautiful combination 🤩 Or Sophia and Hazel.

My favourite combination would be Hazel and Iris.

Margot and Thea go well too imo.

Isabella is way too popular round us, which puts me off. I’m not too keen on Alexis.

mummysmagicmedicine · 03/09/2025 21:31

Firstly many congratulations! You both must be absolutely over the moon and to adopt two babies in need of loving homes is such a beautiful thing for you to do!
Here are my opinions but remember as long as you both like it that’s what matters x

  • Eva and Iris- where I am (South England) there are a lot of Eva’s, Evie’s, Evelyn’s Ava’s etc that Eva may get muddled in with. Iris is beautiful and is know but not overused
  • Sophia and Hazel- love them both but maybe not together as Sophia is more popular and Hazel more rare (in my opinion anyway) maybe Sophia and Isabella would work better?
  • Isabella and Thea- love Isabella but is again very popular where I am but if you’re okay with that then it’s beautiful and has many nicknames potentials,Thea is simply beautiful
  • Margot and Alexis- love Margot but again very popular where I am and I love Alexis with the potential nn of Lexi too!
Are you open to other suggestions? x

Id go Hazel and Iris but your name choices are lovely. Congrats, how exciting!

CoffeeChocolateWine · 03/09/2025 23:15

One of your pairings is both my DDs names 😊 And two others were also shortlisted!

I’m not so convinced by Margot and Alexis together…the vibes feel quite different? I know two sets of twins called Margot and Florence, and Iris and Sylvie just in case that gives further inspiration.

Of the ones listed I like Eva and Iris or Sophia and Hazel best.

Good luck!

LivingTheDreamish · 09/09/2025 21:58

How exciting to be welcoming twins!! Eva and Iris is lovely. I also like the pairing of Hazel and Thea (and they are both a bit more unusual if that is important to you).

caityvh · 12/09/2025 10:51

Hazel and Margot

Calliopespa · 12/09/2025 10:54

I like them all except Margot and Alexis.

Ketzele · 12/09/2025 10:55

Lovely names, I like Hazel and Iris best.

Yes, I like that combination. I think Iris wins out in an Iris-Eva combo, whereas these two names are more similar and both reference pretty plants.

Snorlaxo · 12/09/2025 11:01

Love some of the names but none of the pairings. Eva, Sophia and Isabella are super popular. Eva/Ava/Eve/Evie are in every primary school
class as is Sophia/Sophie and Isabella/Bella/Belle

Alexis makes me think of Carrington which isn’t a reference that her classmates will know (they might think of Alexa or Alexis Bledel when they are old enough to watch Gilmore Girls)

I think Margot is going to date badly. I assume it’s Robbie that made the name shoot up in popularity

I like Thea, Hazel and Iris. Thea is very popular but I would personally use it.

Thea, Hazel and Iris are my three favourites too - though Sophia is a lovely name, just heavily overused at the moment.

stanspan · 12/09/2025 11:39

I think Iris and Hazel sound good together.

I’m a twin myself and our names are often shortened when said together. They are just normal length names (both very easily shortened to two letters) but when someone is often saying two names together they will naturally look for ways to shorten them. So consider any shortened versions and how they sound when said together.

MonetsLilac · 12/09/2025 11:42

They're all really lovely names.
Sophia and Hazel are my favourites.
Well done for not going down the matchy route, or giving them the same initials.

I know exactly what you mean about Margot and Alexis together. I think its because they are both very "strong" names which have the potential to sound a bit harsh - I do think of Margot Leadbetter and Alexis Carrington which would make one scary pair of twins!

Something like Florence helps to soften.
