Brother for Max.

I would choose Leo, it's a lovely name.

Actually, they are all lovely names IMO, but Luca is only usable if you have Italian heritage, which I don't, and Hugo can be seen as a touch pretentious.

People have such funny ideas.

Leo and Luca are both top ten names in the UK (and there aren't that many people with Italian heritage) and Hugo is a top 50 name.

All go well with Max, OP, so you can't really go wrong.

BlondeCircus · 01/09/2025 11:35

Leo for me

In my opinion...

All are nice. Leo is my favourite, if you don’t mind its popularity.

CrostaDiPizza · 01/09/2025 13:08

They're all mainstream names reflecting the current trend for names ending in -o or -a.
I don't like Luca and think it's faddy. (Might be fine if you are Italian)
I like Leo, but Theo being overused it will become dated.
Hugo is ok, but might vary depending on accent. It is definitely not pretentious.

I'd pick Leo, but I'd have the choice as Leo, Luke or Hugh.

Luca or Leo

crappycrapcrap · 01/09/2025 13:12

Luca but all nice

LlynTegid · 01/09/2025 13:18

I'd choose Leo of the three.

Bluelilacbella · 01/09/2025 13:37

Luca or Leo

Hugo sounds so pretentious when pronounced Heeeeeeoogo.

butterdish93 · 01/09/2025 13:42

Love Leo. But it is very popular.
Luca is gorgeous too. I know more English Lucas than I do Italian ones.

BoleynMemories13 · 01/09/2025 17:42

Leo goes perfectly with Max. Both are strong, masculine three letter names.

Luca and Hugo don't have the same strong vibe that Max does. Luca is nice enough, although I prefer Lucas and think this fits slightly better with Max.

Hugo would be a very far down third choice for me.

Norastroud · 01/09/2025 19:41

I really like Hugo. I also like Hugh nn Hugo or Hughie..
Leo & Luca are both lovely names but very popular atm.

Chewbecca · 01/09/2025 20:34

I think Hugh would be a great choice too, maybe Lawrence.

shoopshoopdedoo · 01/09/2025 21:10

Love Leo, despite it’s popularity

Not that keen on Hugo, but it’s OK
I don’t like Luca or Lucas. Like Luke

Alexandrine · 01/09/2025 21:59

Leo of the 3. Personally I’d team Max with something similar like Jack or maybe classic Luke rather than Luca. Hugh rather than Hugo is also really lovely, although perhaps a bit unpopular compared to Max.

Luca and Hugo just feel a bit more newly popular compared to Max imo, which despite being a nickname feels quite classic in style to me. Of your 3 choices Leo feels the least trendy - or has been trendy for a few decades now, so looks set to continue.

fruitypancake · 01/09/2025 22:21

Leo

Leo I like best.
or Luke or Hugh.

Other ideas ..
Vernon
Vincent
Adam
Rufus

IndigoBluey · 02/09/2025 01:57

Leo reminds me of the child of the women from made in Chelsea and her other half, both very grabby. They plaster the little boy all over Instagram and the guys page is cringe. I would go for Luca out of those three

Firsttimebabymummy · 02/09/2025 07:06

Leo.

Max and Leo sound great tgether too!

Thingyfanding · 02/09/2025 07:12

I agree that Hugo does sound a little pretentious. Leo is a great name!

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 02/09/2025 07:45

Leo.

Jess13224 · 02/09/2025 09:14

Luca
