Name crisis (help)

I'm expecting baby girl late Sept. DH and I settled early on a name - name is classic sounding but not particularly common - think like Naomi or Sylvia. We have been so settled on the name that we have told lots of family etc., with very positive reception.

DH's parents have been going through divorce after a long marriage - the culmination of lots of long-term issues and sad for all involved, although everyone civil etc.

We think both parents might be dabbling now in the dating market, but for the first time DH has been told about this by his father with someone mentioned by name....which is the same name as we had planned for DD. We don't think its particularly likely this person will be around long term, but I guess not impossible. Even if the relationship continues they are both abroad, so not someone we'd be likely to see much of (although again, who knows)

This has thrown us quite a bit, particularly DH! Questions are:

  1. can we still use our name??

  2. what should DH say to his DF?

  3. what should DH say to his DM???

Any advice gratefully received!

Well if you’ve already told family about the name with positive response, then I assume your parents knew before this woman came into your life that you was gonna use it?
so it won’t be like your naming baby after her. Because you were already set on it
I would say to my dad In a joking way
cant believe she has the same name as baby, what are the odds

I wouldn’t use it.

I would use it if you love it

Use the name you like best.
No one will associate the two - one is an older woman, fleetingly connected, and the other a baby

Yes I would still use it

This especially as they live abroad and you won’t see them much

I’d use it, unless it’s likely to upset MIL? I’d be worried about any (unfair or not) drama about ‘naming the baby after the OW’.
