Opinions on the name Ruben for a boy.
We also like Rowan and Harris

i like them all

Cinaferna · 23/08/2025 08:48

I like Ruben a lot and am not keen on the others. Rowan always seems more of a girl's name to me, and Harris is a rather dull surname. Ruben is classic but fairly unusual.

silverspringer · 23/08/2025 08:48

I like it and like Rowan too but not Harris.

There’s different ways of spelling Ruben/Reuben/Rueben that I’ve seen at work and I think Reuben is the correct one but actually I’m not sure and others won’t be either.

Cutleryclaire · 23/08/2025 08:49

Ruben is one of my all time favourite names. I love it.

RosesAndHellebores · 23/08/2025 08:49

Do you mean Reuben? If not, there will be much confusion. If so, please spell it correctly.

taxidriver · 23/08/2025 08:49

the different spellings of Ruben is an issue i agree
and i have heard Roan also

and Harris, as long as your surname couldnt be misunderstand as a first name!

Toomanywaterbottles · 23/08/2025 08:52

It’s Reuben, not Ruben, unless you’re Spanish or such. I’m not so keen. I much prefer Harris. I like Rowan a lot, but generally for a girl.

peanutbuttertoasty · 23/08/2025 08:53

Sandwich is what I think.

You can spell Ruben how you like
Ruben Reuben Rouban Rubin Rubén
Its a name there’s no correct or incorrect way.

I personally don’t like the name it is far too popular these days.

Of course there’s a correct or incorrect way, depending on national variants!

A name can be spelt however you want, it’s personal choice. So the correct way is however you choose to spell it. Obviously depending on the location the pronunciation maybe different but you can still spell a name how you want

Berlinlover · 23/08/2025 09:54

I like Harris but not Reuben or Rowan.

DollyMixers · 23/08/2025 10:04

Really dislike it personally but can’t express why specifically, I just don’t like the sound.

I’ve never liked it either, and can never put my finger on way! I’ve met some lovely Reuben’s (and some arseholes) so I don’t even think it’s an association. I love Harris out of that list though

Emanwenym · 23/08/2025 10:07

@Coconutter24 , You can spell Ruben how you like You could but why would you spell it some unique way?
Ruben Reuben - Reuben or Ruben are the usual ones.
Rubin is pronounced slightly differently
Rubén and Rouban would be pronounced differently. The diacritic would usually be omitted in the UK
Its a name there’s no correct or incorrect way. - that's your opinion. Others would disagree.

Emanwenym · 23/08/2025 10:10

I'm not keen on Reuben either. It seems a bit dreary and a 'mummy's boy' sort of name.
The misspellings would put me off.

ThisQuickHedgehog · 23/08/2025 10:16

I think you'd be better off using a more conventional spelling .If you told me his name, I'd assume the Reuben spelling until you explained otherwise. Rowan does now seem more popular as a girl name. Harris would be ok if you are from a part of the country with a tradition of using surnames as first names especially for oldest sons. A branch of my DHs family are all Wilson, Spencer, Miller and such like forenames.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 23/08/2025 10:17

I like Reuben (spelled that way only). I don't mind Rowan but prefer Rohan. I'm not keen on Harris unless it's a family surname.

user2848502016 · 23/08/2025 10:25

I like it, but prefer Rowan or Harris

Bellevue85 · 23/08/2025 10:43

I really like all three, but my favourite is Harris as a lot less common (Rueben / Rowen are very ‘on trend’ right now, IMO).

Topseyt123 · 23/08/2025 10:49

I would spell it Reuben, and I quite like it.

Harris? Not sure, but I would love it if it were Harry.

I've never been a particularly fan of Rowan, though it doesn't offend me.

That’s just nonsense, I’m afraid. You might choose to spell table as tehbul, but it wouldn’t be correct.

Me too. Yum.

No records found for babies called Rouban in England & Wales since 1996

Rowan is nice and inoffensive, but blends into all the Romans and Rorys.
Rohan is Ro-han. I'd think outdoor clothes or Indian heritage but that might be me.
Harris - not keen as it's too surnamey, but that's also how i feel about Lewis.
Haris is an Islamic or Urdu name.

Emanwenym · 23/08/2025 11:05

I'd avoid the Roob'n spelling but @Coconutter24 might like it.
