hunkermunker · 30/05/2008 14:14

What's DS2 called, SK?

dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 14:15

all knowing all seeing omnipresent hunker strikes again

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 30/05/2008 14:15

I slightly criticised a name that is special to her .

hunkermunker · 30/05/2008 14:16

Just after I'd recommended CSWS's DD's name on another thread, ironically.

sweetkitty · 30/05/2008 14:17

Right I am with you now hunker

I'm quite glad this one is another girl as DP and I would have argued until the 12th of never about Elliot/Logan and ended up calling him Jack!

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/05/2008 14:18

Did you really, fab .
But we are still considering using ds2's name hunker, so it's not like my criticism was a big one . It's dh's middle name too btw!

hunkermunker · 30/05/2008 14:20

S'ok, my love.

I am feeling cranky (banged my head earlier and it really, really hurts) and I came onto MN to do a scattergun argh at people. You got off lightly, trust me [goes out for the afternoon]

GreenElizabeth · 30/05/2008 16:16

What are your criteria Dizzydixies?

I like a challenge. Tell me your name rules.

dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 17:22

ok greeny you're on!

am a complicated but simple soul really

we have 2 dds so are ok for boys names as still like our original ones, having never gotten to use them!

Corin
Caleb
Roan
Cassius or Cassian
Jude
Reuben

am sure there is another one but I can't think of it right this minute

our girls are

dd1 - Isabella known only as Ella
dd2 - Alexandra known only as Lexie

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
if it is another dd, am I stuck? do I have to follow suit and have another long name shortened? e.g

Charlotte - nn Coco
Beatrice - nn Bea
Cecelia - nn Cece
Olivia - nn Liv

etc

am not overly keen on names with same initials (comes from nosey sleekit mother who opened my post)

we have a surname which is very much a first name so it can't really be a name that is considered more of a surname iyswim as it would be the wrong way round all the time

not sure if I want names that sound too similar - I want my kids to KNOW which one of them is being shouted at

e.g I really like Sylvie but think its too similar in sound to Lexie

both girls have 2 middle names which are family names - will deal with middle names later - am not too stressed about it as we both have HUGE families

how's that for a challange for you then?!?

you'll be regretting you asked now

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 30/05/2008 17:23

Beatrix - Bea, Trixie

dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 17:23

can you see why I haven't technically started a thread for help as most people would look at it and go

sod that for a lark

I prefer helping others with their names as am a bit of a name obsessive

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 30/05/2008 17:28

dizzy your list of criteria is as bad as mine

of course you have to have
Abigail - Abbie
Elizabeth - Beth or Libby
or
Liberty - Libby (I liked this DP hated)
Olivia - Livvy
Amelia - Millie

thats my top 5 names there you go take your pick

scorpio1 · 30/05/2008 17:32

Millie

dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 17:32

Abigail was what dh wanted for dd2 but it now has same initial as Alexandra and same 'ee' ending as Lexie AARRGGHHHHHHHH

we already have an Amelia and Olivia and Elizabeth known as beth in the family I told you we have a ridicliously large family - on both sides - we should start falling out with people

Liberty am not too fond of, love Libby but witch at work has dd by this name and I couldn't forgive myself for using it

nice try though all lovely names just can't be used for one stupid reason or another

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 30/05/2008 17:41

I think you need a Philippa dizzy. Shortened to Pippa or just Pip, or Phil if you prefer.

dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 17:42

I quite like Pip am sure Piper was on the list somewhere with one of the girls

what about Penelope nn Nell or do you think thats asking for trouble with Ella and Nell as siblings?

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 17:43

scopio I love Millie and would use Amelie or Camille in a heartbeat BUT cousin's Millie (Amelia) has just turned 1

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 30/05/2008 17:44

Emilia - Emmy

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/05/2008 17:44

I think that Nell and Ella are too similar, but you could shorten Penelope to Penny.

dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 17:47

I was thinking more along the lines of Nellie the Elephant with Nell and Ella

how about Evangeline? Eve/Evie - too similar to Lexie

Lexie and Evie

I quite like Evan as a nn for it though?

Clementine? love it? hate it?

OP posts:
GreenElizabeth · 30/05/2008 18:25

Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. I'll comment on your names and then try and add suggestions.

Corin - I like this, but it does sound quite like a sur name to me.
Caleb - Love this one.
Roan - Iike this one. DOesn't immediately strike me as being a good match for your girls' names though.
Cassius or Cassian - I Like Cassius, and I like Caspian as discussed on this board a while ago. But not Cassian. It sounds feminine. Like Cassie-Anne. Julius is a brilliant Roman classic that matches your girls' names very well.
Jude - Quite like this. It is slightly poncey! but it's still a good name.
Reuben - Really love this one.

BoYS' names I can see with your girls. Dominic/Dom, Jeremy/Jem, Benjamin/Benjy, Jonathon/Jock or Jonty, Robert/Robbie, Richard/Richie, Gregory/Rory, Thaddeus/Teddy,Thaddy or Theo

Charlotte - nn Coco - I really completely totally love the name Coco (as Lola would say) and I love Lottie too. Not tremendously keen on Charlotte tbh, but I think the long name/short name does blend in very well.
Cordelia is a very versatile name with so many nns you mgiht like. Coco obviously, and Didi and Delia and even Celia !
Beatrice - nn Bea - I like this one. Also Bibi is lovely. Beata (pronounced BeyATa is a germanic nn option, nms tho!)
Cecelia - nn Cece - quite like this but too many Ss. Perhaps? I like Cecily though.
Olivia - nn Liv - Like it. Liv is very pretty, but it sounds a bit weak next to Lexie. Lexie and Liv. Lexie just sounds so much stronger.

Here are some more classic names with very pretty nns.

Margaret - Maggie or Greta
Penelope Poppy or Polly
Susannah Susie
Jemima Jemma

I might have more later! Are any of these suggestions on the path ?

dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 18:34

not liking
Dominic
Jeremy
Richard
Gregory
Thaddeus

my dad/brother are both Robert
nephew & godson is Benjamin
dh's best friend wee one is Jonathon

Cecelia is one of dd2's middle name so probably wouldn't use it anyway

cordelia is nice

don't like Margaret - horrible girl from uni

hadn't thought of Poppy from Penelope - tis nice but dh not keen on flowery/nature names

susannah - can't make my mind up about it

Jemima - keep suggesting it to dh who just quacks at me - it has a lovely meaning too [grr]

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 18:37

what about Luisa into Lois?

I am also in love with the name Muiranne pn Mirren but wondering if its too 'scottish/irish' next to the girls names?

OP posts:
GreenElizabeth · 30/05/2008 18:43

I love Lois from Eloise. Just knock of first and last letter!

Would your husband agree to Gemma or just Jemma?

Muireann is a tricky one. I wouldn't have a notion how to pronounce that. I have read it tho.

What about Marianne with Murran as a nn?? Marianne looks more comfortable next to Alexandra and Isabella.

Alexandra, Isabella and Muireann, that sounds like you had a daughter with a new partner! Is that too blunt? It is just a switch of styles.

dizzydixies · 30/05/2008 18:44

I know what you mean about a complete switch

Gemma is too close to friends wee one Jenna - see what I mean about knowing/being related to too many people
