Mine haven't been. Not sure what that means.

DD1's name has cropped up quite a bit recently (but she's 22 so it doesn't matter if there are suddenly hundreds of them). More worrying is DD2's name keeps being recommended. I picked it because I didn't want her to be the 3rd child in the class with her name.

FAQ · 29/05/2008 21:54

yes DS1's was a few weeks ago with someone saying something along the lines of

XXXXX I mean is that a real name......

DS1's occasionally - people either love it or hate it.

DS2's often - people think it's a good, sturdy traditional name or they think it's dull (but they call their children Peaches and Cockring, so fuck 'em).

couple of times but as it is irish people are recommended not to use it due to difficult spelling/pronunciation.

as i live in ireland that is not a problem!

lol hunkermunker!

southeastastra · 29/05/2008 22:40

yes, hector was gladly received iirc.

jingleyjen · 29/05/2008 22:41

Dd1 and 3's name have been mentioned a few times. They don't get much of a reaction really, a few have said they like them whilst others think they're boring and 'safe'.

Dd2's name has been slated at times, but also others love it. It certainly provokes most reaction.

EyeballsintheSky · 29/05/2008 22:43

DD's name 'was posh once but isn't anymore' and is 'a name that is suitable for an adult but can be shortened to sound nice for a little girl'.

rosealbie · 29/05/2008 22:44

Once or twice for both of them I think.

Not often if at all! (I have a dim recollection of once by one person)

It's a Teutonic name so not popular in the UK, although I have to say there are a few people on MN who profess to love it.

winestein · 29/05/2008 22:46

Oooh get you Cali, all flowers and barefeet

BoysAreLikeDogs · 29/05/2008 22:47

DS1 yes

Ds2 no

puppydavies · 29/05/2008 22:55

on a search dd1's has been mentioned about 10 times in baby names and dd2's about 7, both in the same thread, on a "niche" theme. very little opinion on either, although dd2's does have a lone champion.

their middle names crop up a little more often, dd1's as a "how could you too cruel" old lady name, dd2's as an increasingly trendy name particularly for 3rd or later children when all caution/marbles thrown to the wind

winestein · 29/05/2008 22:57

You really like my DS's name Boysarelike... I remember you saying it (in your Easter guise)

used2bthin · 29/05/2008 23:00

DD's name is aways suggested when people ask for feisty/strong/firey names. She is quite a character but I think would hae been anyway! Her middle name has been suggested tonight too.

Gobbledigook · 29/05/2008 23:02

None of mine come up really because they are not unusual names. They are just classic names that lots of people use without wondering what people will think if shouted out in the supermarket!

Weegiemum · 30/05/2008 01:44

No.

Not my dds anyway, as they both have lovely ordinary girls names that are never mentioned.

Ds occasionally as his is Irish.

Usually only mentioned if I mention them!

MrsJohnCusack · 30/05/2008 02:03

DD's name (or variant thereof) was the subject of a thread once, can't remember the general consensus, but as with anything, some liked itand some didn't. it's pretty unusual so we expect some digs anyway
DS's name coames up fairly frequently, is a good, solid, slightly old fashioned name which he share with the offspring of some very nice Mumsnetters

lillypie · 30/05/2008 07:16

My sons names are never mentioned, but my daughters name comes up a lot.

My best friends DS name comes up on every pouncy name thread

kayzisexpecting · 30/05/2008 07:19

Mine was just a few days ago.

Most people liked it but a couple said it made them think of a fictional film character.

berolina · 30/05/2008 07:56

ds1's name often comes up in a 'this is a nice, solid but quite popular name' way. ds2's never does - it's very unusual, particularly in the UK. If I did start a thread on it just to see, I expect I would get a few 'ooh, a bit poncy' replies.
