Rowan
Jasper
Rohan

From best to worst.

PomegranateVase · 14/08/2025 19:39

Jasper
Rohan (pronounced Ro-han)

I’m not keen on Rowan or Louis.

Campingisnexttogodliness · 14/08/2025 19:39

My ds is Roan.

LoveHearts69 · 14/08/2025 19:40

Rowan and Jasper definitely!

Michele09 · 14/08/2025 19:42

Louis - I like
Jasper- I lievit but I'd choose it for my dog
Rowan - I think of a tree or Mr Bean
Rohan- I think of the outdoor shop

Emanwenym · 14/08/2025 19:50

Rowan if you want it said as Rowan. Roman being so popular slightly puts me off.
Rohan if you want 'Ro-han' (also think outdoor clothes) Rohan | Specialists in Outdoor & Travel Clothing
Jasper - ok, a bit 🐕
Louis - fine but Louie isn't

Pick whichever goes best with the surname.

My preference Rowan, Jasper, Louis, Rohan.

Moreteaandchocolate · 14/08/2025 20:23

My order would be

  • Louis - lovely classic
  • Rowan- great name, my only slight negative is that it’s occasionally used for girls and unisex names often swing from male to female over time
  • Jasper - I used to think it was posh & a little eccentric sounding (like Rupert) but it’s growing on me
  • Rohan - would annoy me that it would get misheard and mis-spelt as the more popular Rowan.
LancashireButterPie · 14/08/2025 20:36

Louis
Rowan
Rohan
Jasper (although Jaz is a great nn)

I am biased as my 4 year old is called Louis and I still love it. I have found a few idiots asking if it’s pronounced Louis or Lewis and I’m like Louis!!! I don’t like Louie.
I also love Rowan x

Snap! DS is Louis and constantly gets Lewis at school, gp etc and he’s had people try spell his name Louie. Does my head in because DH and I always grew up knowing the name as it is so seems to be common sense to us.

I've assumed Louis sounded like Louie before, and was corrected that it was Lewis, so I'll now forever be one of those idiots 🤷‍♀️

From best to worst
Rowan
Louis
Jasper
Rohan

MCF86 · 14/08/2025 22:53

I prefer Rohan to Rowan but both are fine. I've known three Rohans though and the most recent one (I work in a school) was constantly being called Rowan by others. It probably didnt help there was a Rowan in the year group too, but I know it did his head in!

Jaspers in my experience have all been dogs or dickheads (I've never worked with one, only known adults)

Louis I really like assuming it's a Louie pronunciation. (edit- I'd still put it above Jasper it was a Lewis though!)

I also thought it was pronounced Louie, thought that was the more common. I only know one, he says Louie.

Commoncormorant · 14/08/2025 23:09

Louis, Jasper, Rowan, Rohan

Unless you’re in a French speaking country, most people will pronounce Louis as Lou-is.

That’s why the spelling Louie has become more popular (than the French spelling Louis) in the UK.

wheniwasyoungiknew · 15/08/2025 07:15

rowan

Louoby · 15/08/2025 07:16

@MCF86yes it’s Louis pronounced Louie. So many ask if it’s pronounced Lewis. I thought it was a known name with the silent S lol

Louoby · 15/08/2025 07:17

@BourgeoisBabe yes Louis is pronounced Louie.

Louoby · 15/08/2025 07:18

@Limonadesi know quite a few named Louis and all pronounce Louie. Most people who want the name Lewis will use this spelling.

CosyFanTucci · 15/08/2025 07:23

Jasper
Rowan

Louis - ambiguous pronunciation so no
Rohan - just no

Lafufufu · 15/08/2025 07:24

Um, no they won't. Most people know the French pronunciation is the correct one, as it's a French name. Some will wrongly pronounce it Lewis, definitely not most!

OP, I like Rowan and Louis. I dislike the Rohan pronunciation, and see Jasper as more of a dog name. Jasper for a child would be very posh around me.

Michele09 · 15/08/2025 09:53

I've never heard of anyone referring to Prince Louis as Prince Lewis. All the Louis around me are pronounced Louie.

marshmallowfinder · 15/08/2025 09:56

Rowan
Jasper
