Trying to think of middle name to go with Marla.

Any ideas?

Marla Ivy?

Not Ivy, you need something that starts with a consonant really or it'll all run together.

Marla Joy?

GreyhoundGal1 · 14/08/2025 13:14

I feel like almost any name would go, also sort of depends on the surname. Although I personally prefer a different number of syllables for a middle name.

You might also like Vivienne, Hazel, Violet, Quinn, Brooke.

hoohaal · 14/08/2025 13:19

Thanks @GeniuneWorkOfFartI did wonder about the consonant!! Think you’re right about that.

@GreyhoundGal1love most of those names! Surname is a very common one syllable surname

I second Jane.

HugoYorway · 14/08/2025 15:19

I'd avoid a filler middle name like Rose, Grace, May, Jane, Joy etc with a common one syllable surname.

I have a Marla Nancy.

I'm a fan of middle names with a connection to someone you know.

HugoYorway · 14/08/2025 21:52

@Dee51121 , I like it, and agree with using a middle name with a connection.

BigSkies2022 · 14/08/2025 22:45

Carla

HugoYorway · 14/08/2025 22:57

I slightly prefer Carla to Marla, but it might get mixed up with Clara. I first read Marla as Maria.

Would this be a bit mad - Marla Vivienne Ivy Smith (it’s not Smith, but that’s the gist of it).

I’m not normally a fan of a hundred middle names, but my Daughters are really keen to contribute towards her name.

Maybe I’ll just leave out the middle name and then no one can kind of complain?

GreyhoundGal1 · 15/08/2025 08:54

I think it sounds nice. I'd rather have 2 middle names than none personally, but then others would feel differently! But I'd also say don't feel compelled to use a middle name you're not sure of just for your kids. Lots want to contribute and it's a nice idea, but rarely works! They'll be fine if you don't use a name suggestion of theirs.

Not what the OP asked, but on the Marla v Carla debate, I find I call my Marla 'Mar' quite a lot, I can't imagine calling her 'Car'. That's just me though, perhaps doesn't bother others or they never shorten.

fairycupcakes · 15/08/2025 19:38

Marla Wren would be so sweet!

Cedrabbage · 15/08/2025 19:51

'if I had a tumour i'd call it marla...' (fight club). Love the name by the way. Also came here to suggest 'joy' to offset the darkness.

CreepyDave · 15/08/2025 20:33

Marla Colette

Rasell · 15/08/2025 20:47

Did your daughters choose Ivy?
I think Marla Vivienne sounds gorgeous but Ivy after that doesn't flow that well, in my opinion.
Could you call her something like Marla Ivy- Rose or something that flows smoothly?
I love Vivienne, also love Voilet and Josephine as pp suggested.
How funny that someone just decided to suggest Carla instead of Marla!
All lovely suggestions and very special that your daughters are involved in choosing her name x

ClearFruit · 15/08/2025 20:48

Marla Jean is nice.
