Hi everyone,

I’m really loving the name Abbie/Abby/Abi at the moment, it’s grown on me a lot recently. I do like Abigail too, but it’s not my absolute favourite compared to just Abbie/Abby/Abi.

Do you think it works well as a stand-alone name, or does it feel too much like a nickname for Abigail? If I named her Abigail, I’d only ever really call her Abi/Abbie/Abby.

I do know an Abbie, and I remember her saying to me, almost 6 years ago, that she wished her name had a longer variant to it, like Abigail, so It’s making me wonder.

Also, which spelling would you choose? Abbie, Abby, or Abi?

Thanks!

Abigail then spell Abbie however you want! My friend is an Abigail and is known as Abby but if she wants to apply for jobs etc she always uses Abigail as in her mind it sounds better!

Abby, I have an irrational loathing for ie ending names

Abbie or Abby if you want it just the short name. You could try Abilene instead of Abigail if you want a longer name. I came across it as a character’s name in a book, but think it is also a town in the US somewhere.

I prefer Abigail.
If you do choose just Abbie, then I prefer this spelling.

My favourite Abigail is universally known as Abs - so whatever you choose it might end up with a different nickname!

If you want Abbie/Abby, choose the spelling which seems most natural to you (i would swerve Abbey, but that's just me) - she will always have to spell it out if you choose Abbie/y - whereas Abigail would be unmistakable in the UK.
