Any thoughts on the name Penelope?
Is it heading for uber popularity?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
fishie · 29/05/2008 08:43

lovely

berolina · 29/05/2008 08:46

I like it. In Germany it is commonls shortened to Nele (pronounced sort of neh-la), which I think is lovely.

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/05/2008 08:53

I like it.
Don't think it's heading for uber popularity though.

tortoiseSHELL · 29/05/2008 08:57

I like Penelope too - I think Penny is really cute too!

NorthernLurker · 29/05/2008 08:58

It used to be very popular didn't it - but now I would guess it's very uncommon. As a spot check - there are none in my daughters school or nursery.

TheMaskedPoster · 29/05/2008 08:59

Super name - but then I have one of my own!

btw - most people say 'what a lovely name' whenever they hear it too.

SmugColditz · 29/05/2008 08:59

Or Poncella?

NorthernLurker · 29/05/2008 09:02

Just looked up the meaning though - 'duck' apparently

LazyLinePainterJane · 29/05/2008 09:03

I love it and suggested it for DC2.

Dh laughed

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/05/2008 09:03

Oh TMP - how are you? Haven't seen you in ages! Just spotted that you've had a second dd - congratulations!

MrsBadger · 29/05/2008 09:06

I know three over 50 but no others

I like it

TheMaskedPoster · 29/05/2008 09:07

Hi CSWS - yes, I disappeared off the radar for a while (well, I was holed up in the ante-natal threads really ) whilst I had DD2.

She is nearly 10 weeks old now, and a little bundle of joy/love/happiness/smiles etc etc etc (see photos on profile )

Hope you are well too .

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/05/2008 09:09

Adorable TMP!
I'm good thanks, apart from the gestational diabetes, which is a PITA. Did you know I'm expecting again too, but a ds this time ?

TheMaskedPoster · 29/05/2008 09:10

Oh and I see you are expecting a DS soon - HUGE congrats xx

TheMaskedPoster · 29/05/2008 09:10

cyteen · 29/05/2008 12:03

Hate the name Penelope, always have, even before I worked for an absolute bitch of that name.

cyteen · 29/05/2008 12:04

Also, someone in that office used to jocularly refer to said bitch as Pen-el-ope (like antelope), which drove me insane with annoyance.

Pinkjenny · 29/05/2008 12:04

My niece is called Penny, she's 9. Suites her.

Pinkjenny · 29/05/2008 12:07

Suites? I mean suits, obviously. WTF!!!

GreenElizabeth · 29/05/2008 12:10

I think it's rising, but like, say Florence or Violet, I don't think it has masse appeal. (sp?) I can't see it going higher than number 80 (approx)

I like it. I would have used it with Polly as a nn (because I LOVE Polly) but I'd rather have Penelope on a child's bc. Penny and Poppy are nice too.

DonutMum · 29/05/2008 12:41

Beautiful.

minster · 29/05/2008 14:41

I love it! Don't like Penny though, Nell is a nice mickname.

seeker · 29/05/2008 14:46

We know A baby Penelope - known as Penny. Lovely.

nkf · 29/05/2008 14:50

I flirted with it but my husbnd didn't like it. And although Penelope is lovely, Penny is a dog's name.

Is Violet on the way up then? I rather like that too. And Florence for that matter. I'm fashionable for once. Not that I used any of the names.

SirJimmySeville · 29/05/2008 18:32

Penny is awesomely cute for a baby, and not too ridiculous for an adult either .

A dog called Penny, that's almost as crazy as a goose called Susan
