Baby 2…… finally

ShesBroodyandMoody · 08/08/2025 15:59

So we’re now 16 weeks pregnant with baby 2!

after years of trying and not getting pregnant for years at a time and more miscarriages than I care to remember we’re now passed the “danger zone” and excepting baby 2! And have finally started to think it’s real and think ahead in planning - yay!

however. Child 1 is now 12 will be almost 13 before baby 2 arrives. Big age gap, we know. But we’re both only early / mid 30’s. We had child 1 in very early 20’s

now comes to our sticking point.
child one has a traditional / arguably common name. And his middle name is my grandfathers who died a few years before son was born

Oliver George

we still love traditional names. This hasn’t changed. But we need a name that suits but isn’t too matchy since there is the huge age difference.

there’s some definite no names. Due to them being used by family or friends and their children. Including
Matthew/ Matt
Micheal
William
Harry/ Henry
Richard
Thomas
Jack
Sam
Christopher/ Chris

We do like James for personal reasons but probably more as a middle name. Due to it falling into above category but has enough meaning to us to still want to use, But i also personally hate initials like JJ and DJ and BJ

we don’t know baby gender. But we do have more boy possibilities than girls for names. Girls names is a huge stumbling block.

some opinions / suggestions would be appreciated!

Girls

  • Cora - middle name
  • Hazel - middle name
Boys
  • Joseph - middle name
  • Robert James
  • Elliot James
  • Seth James
  • James - middle name
  • Benjamin - middle name
  • Dominic - middle name

thanks in advance ! Xx

Congrats! James is lovely, has meaning to you and works perfectly as a first name - plus it’s a fab timeless classic that suits all ages and fits well with Oliver. But it’s very dull as a middle name (it’s the Rose, Grace, May of boys middles).Have you got another family name that you could use as a middle? (maybe another Grandad’s name?)

Of your girls names, Cora is pretty imo. You might also like similar style Lara, Rosa, Clara, Nina and Anna. But again I’d try to stick with a family name for the middle as it seems a shame to do it for one DC and not the other.

unfortunately the other grandad names are not names we’d use. Or are in the list of already used names elsewhere with family etc

there also isn’t a useable girls name in family we like for middle name either 😫

I should maybe make clearer. E.G.

  • Joseph - middle name
is Joseph as first name not sure of second name due to my dislike of JJ, DJ’s initials

thanks for suggestions so far 😘

Joseph Barnaby
Barnaby Myles
Barnaby Luke
Dominic Myles
Benjamin Luke
Nicholas James
Ivo James
Jonah Dominic

Hazel Matilda
Hazel Madeleine
Hazel Georgia
Hazel Imogen
Hazel Evelyn

I think Hazel is gorgeous, and the end-of-alphabet Z and V sounds of Hazel and Oliver link the names without being too obvious.

TheSandgroper · 09/08/2025 04:16

If you like Cora, what about extending it to Coralie? I think it has a nice swing to it.

Oliver George and ..

Edward James
James Benjamin
Dominic Charles
James Elliott
William James

Jamima Hazel
Hazel Claire
Catherine Hazel
Ellinor Beth
Hazel Josephine

StarlightBlues · 12/08/2025 10:40

I like Elliot James & think it goes nicely with Oliver, without being overly matchy.

For a girl I would pick Cora and perhaps a longer middle name like Cora Elizabeth.

Dominic Elliott
