Baby name advice – Liliana?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some thoughts on a baby girl name I’ve completely fallen in love with, Liliana.

I’ve always adored Lily and Lilian, and when I came across Liliana it just sat so nicely with me. I think it’s so pretty and has a lovely, timeless feel. But I’m a bit unsure how it comes across to others, does it feel like two names pushed together (Lily + Anna)? Is it a bit of a mouthful?

I’m also smitten with the middle name Marigold, so the full name would be Liliana Marigold. To me it just feels romantic and elegant, but I’d love to hear your honest thoughts before I get too attached!

Thanks in advance!

The Liliana that I know is Romanian

Melanie Blatt's baby was called Lilyella - a mix of her favourite flower and Ella Fitzgerald. I've got a head full of useless crap!

I know a few adult women with this name, all Eastern European and all shorten it to Lily. I spent some time working in Romania and it was extremely popular there. Lovely name.

So she was. Both beautiful names

Liliana is beautiful, not so keen on Marigold.

Why are some people insisting that she will be “Lily” though? Her parents can call her that if they wish of course, but only Liliana herself can decide which name she wants to be known as, when she’s able to make that choice, if it’s Liliana, then that’s her name, and no-one has any right to call her something different.

I’ve never tolerated my own name being shortened, I hate it, and when DD1 was born I insisted everyone call her by her full name. Now she’s an adult, she insists on her full name.

DD2 has a name that can’t be shortened.

Down this end of the world, Liliana would be “tell me you’re Italian without telling me you’re Italian”.

But it is pretty.

Liliana is lovely. Liliana Marigold is nice and very floral.
Other second names ..
Liliana Christobel
Liliana Marie
Liliana Lilac
Liliana Florence

I also like Luciana

It’s very frilly, albeit pretty. I must admit I prefer simpler Lily/Lilia/Lilian. But a lot of those frillier names are getting more popular (Eliana, Arabella etc). And if she’s not an ultra girly girl when older and feels it doesn’t suit her, at least it’s easy to shorten - she can be Lil/Lily. So if it’s your fave name then I say go for it.

Love Liliana. Very versatile and pretty.

Liliana is great. I like Marigolds, too, and I don’t think of gloves but then I’m showing my origins there so perhaps my opinion on that name doesn’t count.
I knew an old woman called Lilias, which is another variant
