Anna and Maria

Hi all, expecting DD2 any day now. Our older DD is named Anna and we absolutely love Maria for baby 2. I’m Italian and DH is Russian so it’s really key we pick names that translate super easy.

We are a little worried that Anna and Maria sound too much like one name when said together though.

We do also like Elena but the eh-lay-nah pronunciation used in the uk a lot drives me a little insane.

So Anna and Maria, are they okay to use together?

”Anna and Maria” are great together as a sibset. Both simple, classic, international and quite timeless names so fit well. The “and” separates them enough from Annamaria imo.

I don't think it matters if the occasional person thinks you're talking about one child called Annamaria. They'll soon catch on and you don't say your children's names in the same breath that often, especially when they grow up.

They are nice. My friend has Hannah and Maria.

You could alter Maria to Marina?

Yes I have a cousin’s who are sisters and they are called Maria & Anna . I am Louisa Maria. Perfectly acceptable and very civilised, hahaha .
