We can’t decide between these three!

I'd rank them in the order you've listed them. I really like Ruby (nowhere near as popular now as it was 20 years ago), Isla is ok (but still incredibly popular). I'm not so fussed by Elsie, I find it a bit too nicknamey.

Ruby is by far my favourite.

Daffodilsarefading · 05/08/2025 09:18

I like Ruby best. I think Elsie will date very quickly.
Isla is nice too.

Moreteaandchocolate · 05/08/2025 09:23

I like Ruby and Isla equally but would pick Ruby because of Isla’s current popularity.

Elsie is nice too, I just prefer the other names, as they feel a bit “stronger” somehow.

Hmmm, they’re all just popular girls names.

I like Isla the most. I don’t like Elsie at all. And I get bored with them all being hyphenated with -Rose/May/Grace.

AntisocialMedium · 05/08/2025 10:32

Of the three, Ruby, but it seems to be used for pets.
Isla has been overused and Lila/Lyla/Lilah is becoming popular .
I don't like Elsie.

Agree with pp about them being very popular and usually paired with Rose/May/Grace.

Suggestions: Lucy, Ailsa or Elsa.

I have an adult DD Isla from before it was popular, and I still think it's a beautiful name.

Not a fan of Ruby.

My Nans name was Elsie and I think it's a lovely name, I know of 2 in my circle.

pushthebuttonnn · 05/08/2025 10:53

Love Ruby! ❤️

AntisocialMedium · 05/08/2025 11:14

@BerolDryWipe , it is pretty, but 1000s of girls have been registered it each year for the past 16 years.

LucasBuck · 05/08/2025 16:41

Split the difference between Elsie and Isla and use Elsa? Not as trendy as Ruby, Isla or Elsie and a bit more elegant sounding imo.

NoVibrato · 05/08/2025 20:00

Elsie and Ruby both sound like 1950's barmaids. But I'm old, so names have different vibes to me than to a young mother.

Agree. Voted Isla as it is lovely but popular (may not bother you). I know lots of pets called Ruby.

Would also suggest Lucy.. or perhaps Esme. You might like Viola?
