I like August and Fabian. Dorothy and Ottilie are the least bad on the girl's list. The others aren't proper names.

Squishymallows · 29/07/2025 11:44

Girls
Dorothy - love this
Lainey - bit American
Ottilie - nice but used a fair bit recently
Rosie - like
Honey - just NO
Wren - like
Lennon - what? No! Boys name and not nice

Boys
August ( nn Gus) - love
Sebastian - love
Fabian - really like
Brandon - too American don’t like at all
Atlas - gimmicky
Mason - hate
Ralph - love

LadyDanburysHat · 29/07/2025 11:51

Girls I like
Dorothy
Ottilie
Wren

The others are a bit twee or nicknamey

Boys I like
August ( nn Gus)
Sebastian
Ralph

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 29/07/2025 11:52

Sebastian for a boy, Rose for a girl. Use Rosie as a nickname.

Steelworks · 29/07/2025 11:55

Dorothy - love (or Dorothea)
Lainey - not keen, American
Ottilie - ok, very popular at the moment
Rosie - ok, very popular
Honey - not my taste
Wren - quite like
Lennon - boys name

Boys
August ( nn Gus) -ok
Sebastian - ok
Fabian - ok
Brandon- no (but due to name association, rather than name per se)
Atlas - no
Mason - no
Ralph - ok

Forgottenmyphone · 29/07/2025 12:20

For me, the only contender of your boys names is Sebastian. I’d veto the rest.
From the girls, either Dorothy or Ottilie. I’m really not keen on the others.

luckylavender · 29/07/2025 12:22

Dorothy, Ottilie & Sebastian. Angus for August

Shesellsseashellsnotinmystreet · 29/07/2025 12:23

Girl
Wren
Rowan
Boy
Brandon
Sebastian

purpledaze24 · 29/07/2025 12:43

Here’s my two cents:

Girls
Dorothy - Going a bit OTT with the “back in fashion” old lady names
Lainey - Too American, or everyone would assume her name’s Elaine
Ottilie - Too twee/too try-hard, getting too popular
Rosie - sorry but I hate this name. It sounds prissy/weak/a bit wet to me.
Honey - Just no. Makes me think of Honey Boo Boo
Wren - Like this a lot
Lennon - Always liked this for a boy and I like traditional boys’ names for girls so could be a good option, although would be better with meaning behind it like if you’re a big John Lennon fan

Boys
August ( nn Gus) - quite like
Sebastian - bit of a stereotypical “posh boy” name but quite like it
Fabian - No. Sounds like an Italian ballroom dancer
Brandon- Just a bit meh
Atlas - Quite like but getting very popular I think
Mason - Like it but like I think of Sebastian as a posh boy name, I think of Mason as a chavvy name
Ralph - Like this a lot

LoudPlumDog · 29/07/2025 12:47

Honestly, the only ones I would use to name a human being is Rosie and Sebastian.

Emanwenym · 29/07/2025 12:48

Dorothy - like. Also like Dot and Dottie.
Lainey - doesn't seem like a name. Know one but she's Lorraine on her BC.
Ottilie - don't like
Rosie - fine
Honey - dreadful, makes me think of a golden retriever.
Wren - don't like at all
Lennon - dreadful. It's a surname.

August (nn Gus) - don't like. Angus/Gustav nn Gus is fine
Sebastian - not keen
Fabian - not keen
Brandon - no, seems dated and downmarket
Atlas - no, downmarket
Mason - no, downmarket
Ralph - no. Ralf or Raif issues.

Girls: Dorothy or Rosie
Boys: Sebastian or Fabian
I'd bin the rest.

miniaturepixieonacid · 29/07/2025 13:35

Dorothy - not keen but I do like Dottie for short.
Lainey - seems like more a nickname - maybe Eleanor or Lorraine?
Ottilie - quite like it.
Rosie - really like it but would be tempted to go with Rosanna with nn Rosie
Honey - I had a friend with a baby sister called Honey in the early 90s. It was really cute on her but I can't imagine an adult Honey. Never heard it again.
Wren - It's ok. No strong feelings either way.
Lennon - for a girl? Not sure about that. Like it for a boy.

August ( nn Gus) - quite like Gus but would go for Angus. Don't like August.
Sebastian - really like it.
Fabian - like it.
Brandon - not keen. Seems very 90s.
Atlas - Literally only ever heard of this in terms of mythology. I think it's too 'out there'
Mason - quite like it. Bit surname-y, though I do like a lot of those types of names normally.
Ralph - not keen. Especially when people pronounce it Rafe.

I think my 2 picks for each would be:
Rosie and Ottilie
Sebastian and Fabian

Mumofgirls2017 · 29/07/2025 16:50

Dorothy, wren, August, atlas

love them all

Moreteaandchocolate · 29/07/2025 17:25

Girls

Love- Rosie

Like - Dorothy, Lainey, Ottilie, Wren

Dislike - Honey, Lennon

Boys

Love - Sebastian

ok - Mason, Ralph, Fabian, August, Brandon

Dislike - Atlas

CarpetKnees · 29/07/2025 17:27

Er....

Rosie is okay. Don't like the rest. Please don't use 'honey'.

Can't find any in your boys' list I would use.

BootballJoy · 29/07/2025 17:38

Dorothy - ok, prefer Dorothea
Lainey - ok.
Ottilie - I do think names like Ottilie, Elodie, Amelie don't sound as nice in English
Rosie - very popular and very twee
Honey - not as popular but also very twee
Wren - quite like it
Lennon - i would assume boy but don't like it for either

August ( nn Gus) - unsure
Sebastian - it's a nice name but don't like Seb so would only be a middle name option for me
Fabian - ok
Brandon - no
Atlas - I know a couple. It's grown on me.
Mason - no
Ralph - like it

I'd go Dorothea or Wren, Atlas or Ralph

Louoby · 29/07/2025 17:46

Ottilie or Wren for a girl
Sebastian or Ralph for a boy

LucasBuck · 29/07/2025 21:04

I like Wren and don’t mind Rosie (though I much prefer Rose) but the others are too “cute” for me or I dislike the sound of them.

Of the boys list, Sebastian is nice (though I must admit I’m not keen on nn Seb) and August is also fine. The others are either too trendy or again, I dislike the sound of them.

Firsttimebabymummy · 29/07/2025 21:24

Dorothy Wren

Sebastian Ralph

NuffSaidSam · 29/07/2025 21:31

I don't think I've ever seen such an eclectic mix! Is this because one parent likes names like Rosie and Sebastian and the other likes Lennon and Atlas and you're trying to find a midway point?

My opinion:

Dorothy - not keen, I'm not a fan of the old lady chic.
Lainey - not my taste, but not the worst on your list.
Ottilie - nice, pretty.
Rosie - also nice and normal. I don't think you'll get any complaints from your DD.
Honey - is a lovely term of affection, but she also needs an actual name.
Wren - I don't mind it.
Lennon - this is by far the worst choice.

August ( nn Gus) - not for me
Sebastian - really nice, I like this a lot
Fabian - nice
Brandon - ok, but not for me
Atlas - let's not be silly when naming a child! Maybe get a dog or cat to exorcise this demon.
Mason - not my taste, but it's fine
Ralph - this is a very dates reference but it just makes me think of Forever the Judy Blume book.

Failingatadulting · 29/07/2025 21:39

Girls

Dorothy - lovely name, I always think its a strong sounding name and that Dot is quite fiesty but Dottie is more sweet and toddler like.

Lainey - its ok, feels a bit too nicknamey for me and a bit american. Im not a fan of Elaine, Lorraine etc though for a longer name. I do know one, 12 year old Lainey.

Ottilie - nice emough, a bit faddy though. I think it will date. I prefer Ottoline as it has a more classical feel to it

Rosie - very popular at the moment, feels a bit whiney

Honey - no
Wren - ok, similar to Ottilie, it seems to be having a bit of a moment currently

Lennon - boys name

Boys

August ( nn Gus) - love August, not a fan of Gus. I think of the mouse from Cinderella. Love Auggie though

Sebastian - lovely, not as keen on Seb though, prefer Bastian or even better Basti but I imagine there is great teasing potential there

Fabian - not a fan. Maybe you would like Florian? Or Julian

Brandon - feels dated and not in s good way

Atlas - but to out there for me. Attics?

Mason - ok, seems a bit 10 years ago

Ralph - nice but there are loads in my area, not sure why. I prefer Rafe

Mummamice · 29/07/2025 21:47

My favourites:
Lainey
Ottilie
Rosie
Wren
Lennon (I do think it feels more like a boys name, but I quite like "boys" names as girls, and names are becoming much more gender-fluid, especially boys as girls names imo)

Boys
Sebastian
Atlas
Ralph

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 01/08/2025 21:29

Dorothy - I like it, although prefer Dorothea. Dora, Dorrie and Dot are all great short forms

Lainey - if it’s short for Eleanor or Helena it’s ok, but as a full name it sounds like a character from a US day time soap

Ottilie - I really don’t like it but it’s popular

Rosie - v overdone, but anyway I think you need Rose or Rosanna or something as a more grown up full form

Honey - daft. And both sexist and a lot of pressure for a little girl to have to live up to being sweet.

Wren - faddy, overdone and will date

Lennon - do not call a girl Lennon, I beg of you. If you like Lennie as a nickname then Eleanor or Selena gives you that.

Boys
August ( nn Gus) - nice, suddenly very popular. I prefer Augustus

Sebastian - lovely and quite popular

Fabian - lovely and underused

Brandon - I quite like it but it has naughty boy vibes to the average teacher, I suspect

Atlas - he carried the world on his shoulders so it’s a bit harsh. Atticus ?

Mason - naff

Ralph - it sounds like a small dog yapping, unless you want to pronounce it Rafe, which is nice, but you’d be better spelling it Rafe
