I love this as a nn for everyday for my DS to be (38 weeks pregnant) I would have Frank on the BC

more than likely pregnancy hormones but suddenly wondering if it is too girly for a boy.

our of curiosity how many Frankie’s who are male do you know? is it already too popular?

Very feminine - Frankie is normally short for Francesca.

Aligirlbear · 25/07/2025 20:11

All the Frankie’s I know of ( 4 ) are female. 3 have Francesca on their BC and 1 is Frankie on their BC.

Moreteaandchocolate · 25/07/2025 21:22

I know one male Frankie and several female Frankie’s. I assume female if I hear it out of context.

I have a Frankie (boy). It’s a really popular name in his primary school. A mix of boy Frankie’s, girl Frankie’s and a Frank. He’s mostly known as Frank to us but I still love the name Frankie on him! Despite so many Frankie’s, it’s never caused any confusion for him as to whether he’s a boy/girl.

The Frankie I knew was Frances (female), now Fran as an adult.

Franky for a boy is Francis.

BootballJoy · 25/07/2025 23:47

I know both. Wouldn't assume either. Not too girly. I know Franks and Franklins too.

JillyGiraffe · 26/07/2025 00:44

I only know one male Frankie - lovely little boy!

NuffSaidSam · 26/07/2025 00:56

Ten years ago I would have said it's a girls name, but I think Frank/Franklin is really having a surge in popularity and the inevitable consequence is lots of little boy Frankie's.

If you're going to have Frank on the BC then you're fine because if he decides Frankie is too girly/babyish he can grow into a Frank.

hungryduck · 26/07/2025 01:18

I know more boy Frankies (3 at least) than girl Frankies (can only think of 1) so I wouldn't say it's girly. It's one of those names that would depend on people's previous acquaintances I guess.

OddshoesOddsocks · 26/07/2025 02:05

I have a Frankie who is a Francesca, there are also 2 Franks at her school who are just Frank. I don’t know any other Frankies her age here.

we decided on the name before we knew she was a girl so she’d have still been a Frankie had she been a boy. I loved it for both

Isitreallysohard · 26/07/2025 02:33

I like it ... for a girl.

user1492757084 · 26/07/2025 03:28

I think Frank and Franky are fine.

I dislike Frankie for a girl unless it is a nick name

BoleynMemories13 · 26/07/2025 07:38

It's firmly unisex so I don't think I'd guess either way if I saw it written down. I know children called Frankie of both sexes sinus always check rather than assume.

The charts suggest it's currently more popular for a boy though (as a stand alone name).
