Marcela or Genevieve?

I’ve narrowed it down. I like a name that is European, not too common or trendy, and is elegant without trying too hard. I like the French name Genevieve and Latin name Marcela. Middle name will be Nicole to honor family. Thoughts?

both lovely.

Do you prefer Marcie/Ella/March… or Genie/Eve/Ginny…?
in my experience 3 syllable names are always nicknamed especially on the playground.

Both names come across to me as being somewhat contrived. I know a young Genevieve, and her mum likes to bang on a bit about what a unique name it is (it's not!).

Love both names. I’d choose Marcela as I love Marcie for short - such an awesome nn!

You wont get the French name Genevieve and Latin name Marcela. They'll be Jennuhveev and Marselluh.

Agree with this.

But even pronounced the British way, Genevieve has a far prettier sound to me than Marcela (although both still have elegant European vibes, even without their native pronunciations imo), so for that reason I’d personally pick Genevieve.

Marcela 😍

BlueBelle7979 · 24/07/2025 17:21

Genevieve definitely

Just wanted to throw in Maricela, in case it’s of interest and you haven’t heard it before.

Out of the two you are considering, I prefer Genevieve.

Are you going to be pronouncing Genevieve the French or English way? English way always makes me think of the car in the film. My mum’s French penpal is a Genevieve she’s 83. Think it’s quite an old lady name and they are coming back aren’t they

CremeEggThief · 24/07/2025 21:11

Both lovely, but I think Genevieve Nicole flows best.

I went to school with 2 Marcellas in the 1980s and early 1990s!

Marcela, I prefer. Marcela Nichole.
Genevieve is also lovely.
I also love Nicola. Nicola Genevieve
