Finding it v difficult to find girls' names me and DH agree on but we both like this - any thoughts? We are not trying to be different - we are quite conventional with names really but just think this has a nice sound and can be shortened to Ally, which is also nice.

sounds a bit made up but go with sopmething you both like. What about alice?

artichokes · 27/05/2008 13:17

I have not heard of Aliana. I prefer Ariana which is Greek in origin. It could be shortened to Anna.

Bky · 27/05/2008 13:18

My DD is Alana which I love, not sure about the extra 'i'.

badkitty · 27/05/2008 13:44

It is not made up (at least not by us): this is from Babynames.com:

The meaning of the name Aliana is Noble & Gracious

The origin of the name Aliana is Latin

From the names Alia and Anne

Maybe it is used in the US. We got it from a character in a book.

Alice can be shortened to Ally too...

ShowOfHands · 27/05/2008 13:47

Sounds like a company that makes feminine hygiene products.

hanaflower, that is exactly who I was thinking of - it is quite a long time since I read the book so obviously remembered the spelling wrong!

I'm not keen on Alice really - could think about Alicia.

misdee · 27/05/2008 15:22

scorpio1 · 27/05/2008 15:24

i like Alanis.

3andnomore · 27/05/2008 15:38

hm...not sure about Aliana...prefer Aline, Alanis and Allanah...or just Liana

Hulababy · 27/05/2008 15:46

I prefer Alana to Aliana. Still not a favourit name of mine though.

I also prefer Alice, to be shorted to Ali if you wish. Or Alicia.

I quite like it also know an Eliana and an Alina and Elina

GreenElizabeth · 27/05/2008 16:25

I don't dislike the sound, but the overall impression it leaves me is too vague. What did I just hear? sort of feeling. AliAnna

Elena is simpler and more beautiful imo. Alice is lovely but quite popular.

serin · 27/05/2008 23:42

Or what about Eleni, have just finished reading "Random acts of heroic love" and one of the central characters had this greek name.......just gorgeous.

spareparts · 27/05/2008 23:45

Not keen, it does look made up to me.

Nancy66 · 28/05/2008 11:38

don't like it - sounds like a Russian hooker.
