Full name suggestions for nickname Artie - boy or girl

I'm expecting my third baby and we have fallen for the name Artie, but more as a nickname and not as a full standalone first name. We don't know if it's a boy or girl and won't until the birth.

Any suggestions for names we could shorten to Artie when we want?

Arthur and Artemis are the only two that come to mind!

Arthur for a boy
Artemis for a girl

Possibly Stuart at a push

QueenOfWeeds · 20/07/2025 22:56

I once taught a little girl called Beata. Maybe you could get away with Beatrice at a push?

KingscoteStaff · 20/07/2025 22:59

Arthur / Artemisia

Headfullofbees · 20/07/2025 23:03

My friends MIL is Margret and she goes by Artie. Also Arrietty, maybe?

Struggling more with boys names that aren't Arthur...a few have art in them, Martin, Hartley, Carter.

Personally think both Arthur and Artemis are great. Classic names, fabulous myths and legends to go with them, Artie feels like a natural shortening for either.

MayaPinion · 20/07/2025 23:03

Arthur/Bartholomew for a boy.
Marta/Martina for a girl.

LucasBuck · 20/07/2025 23:05

There’s the longer version Artemisia - like the famous painter Artemisia Gentileschi (a feminist icon). But yes, otherwise I think you’d struggle for any thing else obvious for Artie apart from Arthur and Artemis. Maybe Bartholomew? But Bart is more natural.

ETA: Crossposted.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 20/07/2025 23:05

Arto for boy

RobertaFirmino · 20/07/2025 23:07

Arteta?

TulipTuesday · 20/07/2025 23:10

Could you give the initials A.R.T and give Artie as a nickname?

moveoverG · 20/07/2025 23:11

Martha and Bart!

moveoverG · 20/07/2025 23:12

Maybe Verity…..?

MeetTheGrahams · 20/07/2025 23:13

That's a cool idea!

TheDonsDingleberries · 21/07/2025 17:31

Marta (rather than Martha), or possibly Martine/Martina for a girl.

Artem for a boy

GoatGoatGoat · 22/07/2025 11:49

I wouldn't necessarily pick a name based on what you want their nickname to be. My parents named me based on what they wanted my nickname/shortened name to be. I never liked the nickname or the full name and went with another version.

This isn't my name, but I'll use Charlotte as an example. They liked 'Lottie', I went with 'Charlie'.

Having said that, I think Artemis is a beautiful name.

KingscoteStaff · 22/07/2025 12:14

Actually, the only Artie I know is an RT - Richard Thomas.

user1492757084 · 28/07/2025 15:18

Richard Thomas is cool.
Arthur

Arietta
Arrietta
Arrietty

Rosa Tess or other RT names.

VerityUnreasonble · 28/07/2025 16:16

Artelia would be a pretty variant.

Martine is also nice.

Pushing it a bit but Eartha?

Carter as an option for a boy or Ewart?

Jessbow · 28/07/2025 16:48

Rosie Teresa
Robert Thomas

RT

miniaturepixieonacid · 30/07/2025 18:28

I agree that Arthur and Artemis are the most clearly obvious choices.

Martin and Marta would work too. As would Artem and Arta but they're very Russian sounding.

I love the initial idea though.

LuckyHare · 02/08/2025 04:39

Bartholomew?

Guavafish1 · 02/08/2025 05:10

I went to class with a girl called Arty. She was Indian and it’s her full name

SallySummerPop · 06/08/2025 16:28

Boy: Artario
Girl: Artiana
Artila
