Just seen this on a birth announcement post. Surely that is not a positive association for a babies name?

It can be a surname.

But I agree, it's not a nice meaning for a child's name.

I know a Remi. Wonder if it’s short for Remnant…

sidechick · 18/07/2025 13:15

UK or elsewhere? I find a lot of American baby names a bit random. It’s not a great name either way :/ could be shortened to Remi which is cute.

what, like a spare bit of carpet? unusual....

In my experience, Remi is short for Remington

As a first name it is deplorable to use.

Faggorts are made from the remnants of animal carcasses, all the leftovers that no one really wanted.

Please tell me its not true.

Probably America I think?

There's an odd church in America called the Remnant Fellowship. I've no idea why it's called that but perhaps "Remnant" means something in America, other that "bit left over"?

  1. a small minority of people who will remain faithful to God and so be saved (in allusion to biblicalprophecies concerning Israel).
  2. "if any one ceases to be a witness, he ceases to be one of the remnant"
adjective

Remnants are the cheaper / discounted pieces of fabric I look out for in shops or online market places.

Oh, that makes more sense. I can see how some communities may use this name now. Sounds jarring to those of us who don’t recognise that meaning I guess.

Jessbow · 18/07/2025 17:23

Pronounced Rem-non maybe?

Its not very likeable

Remi is a stand alone name in the U.S.
It's a cute name, agree.
