Thinking of Hermione for a girl's name but wondered if it was too pretentious? Any views?

Oh there's endless fun to be had with shortening Hermione:

Miney
Mines
Hermy1
Herms
Hermy
Things that rhyme with Hermy which you spend your adolescence praying that no-one will spot.
Amy
Oi you!
etc
etc

not my personal taste and then there is that whole Harry Potter thing...

PuppyMonkey · 27/05/2008 16:43

I've always thought there's something not quite right about it, sorry don't like it.

SpongeBrain - you are a GENIUS! Thankyou!

spongebrainbigpants · 27/05/2008 18:20

thank you janeite !

mrs weasley, not Voldermort then? He's certainly likely to be the only one in his class - do you think his teacher will call him He-who-must-not-be-named?!!

I'm not keen personally, I don't like the way it sounds/looks. Not sure if the HP thing is good or bad, but certainly everyone will assume that you are a fan. You only know if that's OK with you.

I like it.

edam · 27/05/2008 18:37

I like it. Wasn't there some actress a long time ago called Hermione Gingold or something? Think that's where I came across the name.

LyraSilvertongue · 27/05/2008 18:42

There's an actress called Hermione Norris who was in Cold Feet and (I think) Wire In The Blood.

LittleMissBliss · 27/05/2008 18:50

It just makes me think Harry Potter.
